Hey all,
I just picked up a used HR 10-250 TiVo unit for cheap. My hope was to replace my existing ATSC tuner with this one and be able to record the OTA HD broadcasts. Is there a way to activate the DVR. Please understand, I have no desire to steal TiVo, nor anything else. I don't watch enough TV to justify it. I just want to be about to use the DVR as a VCR. If I can't, I'll just dump this thing and look for something else. Thanks in advance, Greg Wilkerson |

Get DirecTv. It's pretty much a boat anchor without a directv subscription. If you're looking for a way to record ATSC HD broadcast, use your PC. You can pickup an ATSC tuner card for under $20 off ebay. If they ever went to an ala-carte service, I probably would. Right now, it does pick up OTA and the replay/pause live TV stuff works. So, that part is cool. Thanks. |

If I perform those, specifically the USB and web hacks, will the web interface open up the DVR for manual operation? Hmm. Greg |

I don't know what you paid for it, but you might be able to sell it for enough to get something that would actually record also. It can be done for about $200. -- Want the ultimate in free OTA SD/HDTV Recorder? http://mythtv.org My Tivo Experience http://wesnewell.no-ip.com/tivo.htm Tivo HD/S3 compared http://wesnewell.no-ip.com/mythtivo.htm AMD cpu help http://wesnewell.no-ip.com/cpu.php |
