The dvb-t stream is mpeg2 which is compatible with the mp3
specification. His app probably just names the stream mp3 instead of mp2. Yes, thanks, that's right. And that's my only (p*** poor) excuse for misreading what TSReader reported when I first got a DVB-T card. And the trimmer worked for me. -- Robin |

If you are considering any enhancements the following would (IMHO) make this
a lot more useful: a) Ability to cut out a segment - i.e. ad removal b) Ability to read a Transport stream in Topfield .REC format and demux/edit that. (My understanding is that these are normal TS format with a header record at the start. Mike "DAB sounds worse than FM" [email protected] wrote in message ... I've written an application that tops and tails MPG files, but I've only had it working on my machine so far, so could some people say whether it works okay on their Windows machine please: www.digitalradiotech.co.uk/MPGTrim.exe If the MPG file is corrupted it won't work properly (it'll say something like file duration = 0.0 seconds and the video bit rate will say some stupidly high figure), but I'll sort that out in a day or two and I just want to see whether it's working at all on other machines at the moment. Thanks. -- Steve - www.digitalradiotech.co.uk - Digital Radio News & Info |

For instance ProjectX is the only TS demuxer that extracts subtitles as well as audio and video - a program that improved on ProjectX with the same functionality but an improved human interface would be applauded and welcomed. |

Forgot to say that it also demultiplexes radio recordings recorded on PC cards from MPG to MP2 so that they can be played back on normal media players. My cards capture either the transport stream or an MP3 file - the latter what I thought was the native format for radio on DVB-T. Help, please? Audio on DVB-T uses MP2 (both the audio for TV channels and radio stations), so your PC card must be converting (transcoding is the technical term for it) from MP2 to MP3, and that means it will be reducing the audio quality to a greater or lesser extent, which depends on the MP3 bit rate you're converting to - if you use a very high MP3 bit rate it shouldn't degrade the quality much. -- Steve - www.digitalradiotech.co.uk - Digital Radio News & Info |

The dvb-t stream is mpeg2 which is compatible with the mp3 specification. DVB-T uses MPEG-1/2 Layer 2 (AKA MP2) for audio. His app probably just names the stream mp3 instead of mp2. I've just renamed an MP2 file to MP3 and it still plays in Winamp and foobar2000, and they identify it as using MP2 rather than MP3, but MP2 files renamed to MP3 won't play in virtually any MP3 players or the vast majority of car stereos with MP3 playback. -- Steve - www.digitalradiotech.co.uk - Digital Radio News & Info |

If they do then your card will be converting the MP2 audio to MP3, but if they don't play then the card will simply be renaming the file as MP3 when it's actually MP2. And the trimmer worked for me. so your PC card must be converting (transcoding is the technical term

The only program to do this at the moment is ProjectX and it's human interface is not really all that good. Even better would be a program like Womble that allowed the subtitle track to be laid in along with the video and audio as a graphical representation of the words (in the subtitle track) so that you could edit the sound, vision and subtitles in one hit or manipulate any of the components. like sliding the subs in anticipation or delaying them as one could do with the audio. Quite often the audio is allowed to lead the visual cut in many films etc... |

I only wrote this and another application to learn how to program Visual C++, and I thought I might as well write a useful application while I'm at it, but I never intended it to be anything more than a no-frills trimmer which maintains AV sync. -- Steve - www.digitalradiotech.co.uk - Digital Radio News & Info |
