connected to Comcast Cable? |

I think it has to do with your TV.
Comcast here has it, so if you do not, look into the settings on your TV. As soon as I hit MUTE, I get close captioning. "dko33" wrote in message ... Is there a way of getting closed captions on my Tivo Series 2 connected to Comcast Cable? |

If you have a "monitor" like mine, which if I understand it correctly
is a TV without an actual tuner, your TV may not have a closed caption decoder (mine doesn't). I lost closed captioning when I hooked it up. Suffered without for several months (closed captioning is to my mind one of the best things to happen to TV, right up there with TiVo, Netflix, and HD). Then found the "Guardian" box, which decodes close captions for TVs that don't have it (and if you want it to filters out obsenities and things). One problem with it, is that it is only SD for now, but so are my TiVos so that's ok for me. You should be able to find one on the web for under $100. |

The good news is the HD TiVos have CC decoders built-in, so you'd get them with the TiVo should you ever upgrade to HD. -MZ -- megazone-at-megazone.org http://www.MegaZone.org/ Gweep, Geek, Human, me. http://www.TiVoLovers.com/ http://www.Eyrie-Productions.com/ -- Hail Eris "A little nonsense now and then, is relished by the wisest men" 508-852-2171 |

That's a useful feature for those who CAN hear. You have CC when you need it, but it doesn't get in the way when you don't. Of course, with a DVR you might prefer PAUSE when you can't listen. BTW, CC allowed me to find out the real words to theme song to "All in the Family". The CC decoding could be useful, but I'd never use such a filter which can makes a mess of the material that goes through. BTW, one of my earlier experiences with editing was with a seventies TV edit of "Smoky and the Bandit". It was largely unwatchable, with so many words replaced with little clicks. They can make good movies without those words, but the edited stuff isn't nearly is good as that. One problem with it, is that it is only SD for now, but so are my TiVos so that's ok for me. Good thing the TiVo does. -- 58 days until the winter solstice celebration Mark Lloyd http://notstupid.laughingsquid.com "Unlike biological evolution. Is there a way of getting closed captions on my Tivo Series 2 connected to Comcast Cable? Depends on your setup.... I have two tivos/tv's with comcast cable, one is a CRT and the tivo remote does vol and mute, and that works live but not with tivo, the other is an oddball LCD (hyundai, no remote code) so only the TV remote mutes it and goes to CC... However, if you are wondering if the CC info is recorded, I just tried it while writing this post, I'm playing a recorded show on the LCD and the seperate remote mutes it, but does NOT go into CC, yet if I select input direct off comcast cable (bypssing the TIVO), it does display the CC.. I would surmise that the CC info is not actually recorded... Hope that helps.... |

The reason I ask is that we watch a tremendous amount of pre-TiVo'd material and the Guardian box finds closed captions on almost all of it. That said, we've watched "live" movies on the TV (e.g. from HBO) and had the closed captioning stop displaying halfway through the movie for no obvious reason, usually all of the sudden in one scene. Now, our setups may be different and it may be some other reason you aren't getting closed caption information. However, I do get closed captions saved on my TiVo recordings. I cannot guarantee that other person will, nor explain why you do not. |
