Default Samsung DLP bulb

The bulb in the HLN507W finally gave up after 8354 hours since
December of 2003. The replacement bulb has been in the closet over 2
years and appears to be working great.

Is there a method for checking bulb usage?

Yes, there is. When my Samsung DLP was serviced under warranty the
service tech told me exactly how many hours my bulb had seen. I asked
him how to access that inform and he said it was only available to
service technicians, which obviously meant that he wasn't about to
tell me how to get to that information. He did use a special remote
control, so it may be that you need that to get the information, but I
"think" it's just a special sequence of buttons to press.

I'd appreciate it if anyone knows, that they would post the info.

Use at your own risk. I accept no responsibility if you screw thing up.

To enter service mode, turn the receiver off, then press
Mute-1-8-2-PowerOn.

Arrow down to "Option"

On my set the fifth entry is "Lamp Life"

Be careful navigating in these menus; it's easy to reset the bulb life
instead of reading it.

Power the receiver off to exit service mode.

Disclaimer - you mess up your Samsung set, it's not my fault. Press
mute 1 8 2 then power on to enter service mode. Lamp hours is under
options - at least on the HLN507 family. IF you're comtemplating
changes on other settings (and there are LOTS), take a picture of the
screens with the numbers BEFORE you alter anything. Digital cameras
are excellent for this.

What's weird about this post is that it shows 7:48PM but I actually
sent it this morning around 11AM. Does this happen to anybody else?

It has happened to me once before, maybe a year or so ago, but the time
difference was even more extreme your example. However, it did not happen
with a newsgroup posting, but rather, an ordinary e-mail. I had composed and
sent an e-mail message, and could not find it anywhere. It wasn't in
"sent," "outbox," "draft," or even "deleted." Then, the next day, it
magically appeared in "sent," with a date and time that had no connection to
the original time at all. I was dumbfounded, and could never figure out how
it happened, but this is the first time I have ever heard it has happened to
anyone else. Curiouser and curiouser.

P.S. thanks for your KCBS postings.
