Default Virgin 1 - not widescreen!

None of the flextech playback suites have widescreen. Living is getting
it early next year so Virgin1 should also go WS then.

What requires a transmission suite to go widescreen, surely aspect ratio
conversion means there is more equipment in the transmission chain .

Dave

It requites them to stump up the cash.

They do not crop WS to fullscreen on the fly, they order 4:3 copies from
their production companies or the yank studio they buy from

Their contract starts at episode 5366, neatly following on from the BBC.

I pity anyone who wants to watch neighbours at all. They have to show it
two times a day because you can't believe it the first time!

Seems daft that buying 4:3 material now and you may go widescreen in the
future you wouldn't be able to use those again ?? unless you wanted to
transmit it as a 4:3 picture in a 16:9 frame.

Well they buy the licence not the print. Not really like movie
distribution. So in future they could get the widescreen versions for a
nominal cost.

That said, plenty of WS channels transmit fullscreen stuff. Most viewers
only set their TV to stretch whatever is broadcast so a lot of them probably
do not even notice.

It seems that its easier to TX a 16:9 version. Take all the bull**** that
the Movie Companies came out with when Widescreen version VHS Tapes came in,
quote 'Its a different trickier process for widescreen film prints than it
is for 4:3 prints' unquote.

Yup its a hell of a lot easier for a widescreen print, its 1 pass per reel.
4:3 prints required the Telecine machnies to be programmed on pass 1 to do
all the Pan & Scan moves and then recorded to tape on pass 2. LOL

I laughed when I saw the poker on at about midnight ish a 16:9 LB picture in
a 4:3 Frame, so on my WS telly it was just a box with lots of lovely black
around it.

Pity. It was almost watchable in those days.

Afer all the hype and adverts about V1 being 'proper telly' they can't
even show programmes in the proper aspect ratio.

Two cracking good shows, didn't notice the 'aspect ratio' - whatever that
may be. ;-)

It's like having Ming Campbell posting in umtm
