Fred had a question on a noisy DVR, my question is should a DVR be making
noise (not loud but you notice it when coming into a quiet room) even when its been off for hours. If you put your hand on it you can feel a light vibration probably a fan. |

Some people can't have them in the bedroom because of it. A_C |

If they are off, how can they record anything? Some, like the RCA DVR I had have an off switch, but that doesn't turn everything off, but it does shut down most things til a recording starts. It then starts up, records the show and then turns itself "off". So the answer is, it depends on the model you have. -- Want the ultimate in free OTA SD/HDTV Recorder? http://mythtv.org http://mysettopbox.tv/knoppmyth.html Usenet alt.video.ptv.mythtv My server http://wesnewell.no-ip.com/cpu.php HD Tivo S3 compared http://wesnewell.no-ip.com/mythtivo.htm |

I've got in the habit of when the tv is off and haven't got anything to be recorded, I just cut the power to it. |

If a segment of a disk is given a read request, the disk will continue to engage the motor and spin for a factory-determined time. If you've a motor in there spinning constantly, that's the breaks, and may as well power off. I doubt there's a fan in it. |
