Which is the best one today...DLP, LCD, or plasma? Do any of you tech gurus
know what technology changes there will be in 2008?

Thanks!

You won't get much help on 'which is best'. You need to pick the one
that fits your viewing habits, room size, type of DTV you watch most,
distance to screen etc. What is 'best' for you will not be 'best' for
someone else.

If you want a wide viewing angle with consistent picture brightness,
good action display, and thin, then I pick Plasma.

If there were one superior technology, then the other two would cease
to exist. Each of the three has its pros and cons. Personally, I
prefer LCD.

I like plasma although the sony SXRD had the best picture but cost was
too high and projections are bulky

I agree, I didn't know which type to buy then a local store came up with an
unbelieveable deal on 61'' JVC's and have been very happy with it.

For those who have lost track, HD-ILA is
JVC's implementation of the Hughes version of
LCoS. Massive step beyond Mitsubishi's
3-chip technology of three years ago.

I went the HD-ILA route, replacing an ED
plasma that was a couple of years old. Liked
the brightness, good blacks, color rendition,
low power consumption and aspect management
of SD and HD formats (something that had been
a total nuisance with the ED panel.)
Sometimes I can detect the action of the auto
iris. Lots of computing tricks and good PIP.

The clincher was JVC's handling of football
motion artifacts. They've got enough
processing power to quickly blur and unblur
the image while the 32-bit processor solves
the mapping issues. Look close and you see
the blades of grass vanish then re-appear. No
jaggies on yard markers during pans and
zooms. Great in either 720p or 1080i. Good
enough to detect the differing qualities of
cameras when the network is "getting by" with
a less than excellent camera. Only saw 1080p
in the store but it looked as good as the
best of the Sony LCDs and Panasonic/Samsung
plasmas.

Downside: Lightweight but bulky. Wide
viewing angle was achieved by limiting the
vertical angle. Keep your seats folks!

This set, with probably a lamp change, will
do my job until SED, OLED or that new
Australian technology becomes a reality.

I've had my 56 for about a year...paid $1899. Now you can get the 70
for $2100 online!

Got the 61 in the spring for 1500 Canadian when Canadian was still a few
cents less than the US dollar and like I said it was in a local store.
Didn't see any of the other types at anything close to this price for its
size.
