I'll just mention that I don't think that the non-techie will have an easy job of extracting the sense of what the words "The new TV system simply replaces the satellite dish" actually mean, although it's the key to understanding what the system is about. Actually, that was one of the paragraphs I had trouble understanding! (I know, I know) but when it said the new system replaces the satellite dish, I thought - what satellite dish?? They didn't have a satellite dish to start with, how can this system have replaced it?? It took a little while for me to work out that Bill meant that a satellite dish wouldn't be required. A couple of other points for Bill..... Freesat from Sky is I think £150 including a card, you only have to buy the card if you are going to use an existing box. How do you know there will be boxes suitable for Freesat (the BBC version" for £70? I've not heard any prices quoted, and we don't know if the present generation of FTA boxes will cut the mustard. You say they could instead use a PVR if they don't want to go for Sky plus. If they go out to Curry's and buy a PVR, they are going to be very dissapointed when it doesn't work with your system (no DTT) equally, if they were to manage to buy a FTA PVR (are such available??) then they won't get C4, Five, etc, etc. I'm not critiscising here, well I am, but it's meant to be the constructive sort :=)) Oh, forgot to say.... I don't think your leaflet warns them that if they go for the Freesat option, they can't watch one chanel and record another. |

I'm hoping that there will be no encryption so they will be able to use boxes like the Fortek Star (trade price £36). You say they could instead use a PVR if they don't want to go for Sky plus. This is a total blunder by me, pasting things from the last leaflet, which was for a job where DTT worked. I'm not critiscising here, well I am, but it's meant to be the constructive sort :=)) No no no! Thanks! Bill |

It should make it clear that they need a separate box for each device. Roll on Freesat PVRs! Bill |

Well, the BBC are suggesting the spec will include HD, also they've said it's going to proper EPG, so I don't think existing kit will work. Also as the UK is a relatively small market, I thnk the kit is going to be relatively expensive at least in the short term (much like the early DTT boxes). Nice if they had £90 Dual tuner PVRs by Christmas 2008 though :=)) I've just got the BT Vision product as my first foray into the PVR world, but SWMBO thinks it too noisy :=(( Also it puts nasty black bars at the top & bottom of my nice 20" Ferguson 4:3 :=(( Funny to think that 1 year ago she hated the Sky box :=)) |

I think the main thing about it (if it ever comes to market!) is that it will have BBC written on it, and therefore people will trust it, and understand that Satellite - is not equal to Sky - is not equal to subscriptions. Of course if C4 and Five etc can't get onboard, then that might cause problems. Much as I like the Sky Digibox, it would be good if Sky had some serious mass market competition. |
