Default Freeview Guide (now with adverts!)

Hi,

I have a 'old' Grundig FreetoView DTT receiver.Only used when I'm recording
on the Humax 8000.

Anyway, switched it on last night and it told me there is a new update, so I
accepted it.
The guide feature which was just a basic 7 day EPG similar to most DTT
rx'ers has turned into a Teletext Advert screen.
It now boasts, it's 14 days, but comes with 1/4 of the screen as adverts,
one cleaver advert shows Nuts TV as if its on the EPG.
I presume most of the data still comes via the EIT stream and teletext adds
to it when selected to a Mux2 channel.

Grundig don't exist anymore and I was lucky to get any downloads but can
they hijack my box and make it a teletext advert tool?

Is there any way I can go back to the last version, which worked just fine.
Is this regulated by OFCOM?

Zach.

No, Grundig do exist, but no longer as in independant German firm. The
brand name is now owned by a British company (the Alba Group). I suspect
your freeview box is an Alba one.

So, no hijacking. Complain to the company

I have an old Daewoo SetPAL box which did this over a year ago.

Is the Grundig a SetPAL box?

I have a Grundig GDT1500T, which may be similar to the box you have. I
also fell for the 'update' and downloaded it. I didn't notice any
advertisements, but the new programme guide seemed worse in all aspects
(harder to navigate, worse screen layout) and also came on by default
whenever the power was switched on, so one had to switch the programme
guide off to see a TV programme. I hated it right from the start.

Luckily I found a slightly obscure option in the main SETUP menu which
allowed me to revert to the old programme guide. I should hunt around
and see if you can find one too.

When adverts were sent to the SetPal boxes, they were downloaded around
0300-0400. They were stored in volatile memory and were deleted by a
power cycle. I fitted a spare timer switch that interrupted the power
for a minute around 0500 each day.

Don't you lose the EPG as well?
