Indeed - I'm not saying there is no difference in picture quality when
you compare a badly-made unshielded SCART lead and a reasonably-made
shielded SCART lead. What I *am* saying is that there is *no*
difference in picture quality when you compare a short reasonably-made
shielded SCART lead costing £1.30 and a 'bells-and-whistles' short SCART
lead costing £49.99 (Monster et al) or more.

I fear that at least two of the above parameters are, to some extent
mutually exclusive,
but can anyone suggest the best compromise?

I'm basically trying to sort out the rats nest behind my TV, and I want some
reasonable quality SCART leads to interconnect DVD, Cable box, VCR and TV.
The ones I have at the moment are about 6ft long and 1/2" in diameter.
Looking for something shorter (1-2ft) and a bit more flexible, so I can
bundle them together and make it all look nice and neat (in case you didn't
guess, I'm on a mission for SHMBO).

Any recommendations gratefully received!

I've taken apart some SCART leads in my collection (some now binned)

The worst examples came 'free' with the equipment. The better examples
cost no more than £5 (in one case less than £2)

There doesn't seem to be enough cores in the ribbon cable. I suspect
that some of the screens are being used in place of core connections.

I've not done the sums, but as most of the signals in a SCART plug
have a corresponding return, then there is a limit to how many
individual coaxs you can use. The ribbon seems to have 13 coaxs,
which would allow for 13 signal and 13 returns = 26. Certainly seems
plenty. Does anyone have a link to a good reference for how SCARTs
should be wired, and should it (idealy) be different for SCARTs for
RGB use?

Am I supposed to be a trader rather than an individual to buy from CPC? Just
that when I enter my details to create an account, it asks for 'Company
Name' and it is a 'required' field. Now I'm quite happy to call myself
'Chris Ltd.' or whatever, but just wondered if I'll get myself in a knot
with VAT or something...

Diagrams are easily found via Google. Correct wiring is exactly the
same for RGB and composite, as the same pairs of pins will be carrying
video of some sort in either case. The remaining pins that never carry
video don't have to be wired with co-ax, but it doesn't matter if they
are. It's probably easier to make bundled cable where all the
individual cables are identical, rather than a mixture of co-ax and
single wires.

Just repeat your name as the company name, that's what I do with CPC.

I use CPC as a (registered) private individual. However, I go to
cpc.farnell.com and not the above link. The two sites actually use
different stock codes (for the same(?) items) as well.
