LCD TV Optimization

Just purchased a new LCD TV and have heard that it should be
optimized. Anyone have any info on how to do this?

At least by adjusting the user picture controls so that the picture
looks the best. The delivered settings are often "too much" of
everyting.

The best setting is where you get the best black level without loosing
shadow detail. Similar for the whites. Go for the most natural
colours.

A good aid is a DVD with test patterns like DVE (Digital Video
Essentials). It contains patterns to help you set the brightness
contrast and colour. DVE also have instruction video to guide you.

There should be an HD-DVD version of DVE available now but I don't
know much about it.

borrow, rent or buy one of the Disney/Paxar movies that have thx sound

example "Monster's Inc."

in the set-up files is an optimization set of video & audio tests

Thanks for the suggestions. I will give them a try. All in all the TV
is amazing in 1080i. Still haven't watched an HD-DVD in 1080p but am
looking forward too it.
