I have had a 42" Sony HD TV Monitor for 4 years. It has given exemplary service
and the picture is today as good as when it was new. I feed the set with Comcast cable HD via its one and only DVI input and several other peripherals such as a Sony DVD recorder/player, a Samsung HD OTA tuner and an old Sony VHS player all via component connections, two of them via a Zektor component switcher owing to a shortage of inputs on the monitor.. I have just bought a Panasonic Blu-Ray DVD player and wish to connect it to the monitor using the DVI input. This will mean either unplugging the cable box and plugging in the Blu-Ray each time I want to use it ( a royal pain in the A***, ( I'm English so I spell that word differently)), or finding some sort of way to connect the two machines together via a converting HDMI/DVI plug and splitter. Does anyone know if that is feasible and if so, will the splitter degrade either signal to the point where it isn't worth doing, and if splitters and conversion plugs are available, where I might find them. Any replies, written in the most basic non technical lingo for this electronically illerate enthusiast will be gratefully received. Thank you. |

There are HDMI and DVI switchboxes available. I've been using a DVI switchbox to change a monitor between two computers for a little over a year, and it works great. It's actually a KVM switch (Keyboard Video Mouse). It also switches the keyboard and mouse, which seems to make KVM switches more expensive than an HDMI switchbox. Anyway - take a look at the different DVI/HDMI adapters and the switchboxes out there, and post again if you have more questions. To get you started, there's a good review of an HDMI switchbox - with references for a few others - at http://reviews.cnet.com/av-cables/be...-32001926.html --Bob |
