Default FM antenna for receiver

Hello.
I was given a Panasonic receiver (HE70) that I want to place in my living
room.
It comes with a small FM indoor antenna wire which works poorly at best no
matter where I string the wire.
What can I obtain in order to get a decent FM signal - longer wire, FM
antenna to place just above the receiver in my attic, etc?
Radio Shack should probably have a few things that might help - I'll stop by
the store to check it out.

Any assistance is appreciated.

Thanks,
Walter

Depending on the local station's proximity, a simple
"T" type wire antenna may be sufficient. Is that what
you have now? You can get them at RS or Walmart type
stores. You may need to go to a "double dipole" type.
They have much better reception ability.

Every regular "TV" antenna (for the roof) I ever purchased also said it
would receive FM.

The FM band falls between channel 6 and 7,
so if its a vhf antenna, it should work.

The problem is that they are directional. Most TV stations come
from one or two big towers, but FM comes from all over. What
I would suggest is the small outdoor FM-specific antenna that
Rat Shack sells. You can put that in your attic, garage, or
the top of a closet. It does an amazing job of pulling in
stations, and you avoid the problems with lightning and static
that outside antennas can have.

If the original poster wants to be super cheap, simply take
two pieces of thin wire, and attach one end of each wire to
the FM antenna terminals on the back of the receiver. Pull
the wires in different directions, and you have a poor person's
antenna. 4 or 5 feet of wire on each side will do it. Thumb
tacks can be used to attach it to the wall, or hide the wires
behind pictures.

I threw away my rooftop antenna years ago when I went with cable.

Not surpriseing. The FM band sits between channels 6 and 7.
