Is this as good as it gets at the moment? or do those with optimized
aerial installations, double shielded downleads, oxegen free viewing
rooms etc get 100% reception of Freeview?

with a proper setup you wont get any breakup at all - no fancy cables
required.

Even then, freeview bitrate is lower than satellite for some channels,
so 100% may not be 100% for the OP.

The main problem I have with Freeview is when a load crows decide to
perch on the aerial, it doesn't do much for the reception. Puts me in
mind of Tony Hancock in the Radio Ham. "How dare they sit on my
aerial, I'll shove a few hundred volts up it, that'll make their feet
tingle!"

As I have seen crows perched on national grid lines, this technique might
not work.

So long as they're only touching ONE cable it's fine. The problem would
occur if they touched two at the same time, or oen and the ground.

Saw one once overreach himself on a railway overheard line, bit of a
flash and puff and Mr crow fell to the ground in flames obviously well
cooked;!...

I can't be too far away from you, in the south part of Crawley, just behind
a low hill and a row of very close high trees - about 25 miles from CP.

Not too far away, i'm in Slinfold nr Horsham
