Hello good people
I am about to buy my second plasma and looking at 42" Maxent sold for $799 at Costco.com. It will be used mostly for DVD's and video games, not TV. http://www.costco.com/Browse/Product... e=&lang=en-US Does anyone have any experience with this TV? why is it few hundred bucks cheaper than anything else out there? Thanks!!!! |

Thanks!!!! One reason it is cheaper is because it is a Maxent. They may be decent, but never the less, they are an off brand. Also, it is a monitor, therefore, no digital tuner. Generally speaking, plasmas aren't good for video games. Chip -- -------------------- http://NewsReader.Com/ -------------------- Usenet Newsgroup Service $9.95/Month 30GB |

As one who doesn't play video games anymore (I quit way back when the only video games available were in arcades), I'm curious why plasma is not good for video games. When I have looked at plasma TVs in the stores, I did not like what I saw, but did not try to analyze why, but I am thinking it is the flicker that was bothering me, just as it does on CRT unless I crank the vertical refresh rate way up. The refresh rate is often too slow for video games. Chip -- -------------------- http://NewsReader.Com/ -------------------- Usenet Newsgroup Service $9.95/Month 30GB |

As in the flicker? Or are you talking about processing latency? If we are talking the same nomenclature, processing latency, although some of what I have read say plasma is better for gaming. Maybe the technology has changed since I last looked into it. Chip -- -------------------- http://NewsReader.Com/ -------------------- Usenet Newsgroup Service $9.95/Month 30GB |

I don't know about their plasmas but I bought a 26 " LCD at Costco ~ 2 1/2 years ago for the Bedroom. It has been flawless. I'd buy another. |

I bought a Maxent 42" Plasma monitor from Best Buy almost 2 years ago for almost twice that price, and I've been pretty happy with it. Someone else in this thread said plasmas were no good for video games, but I have to disagree. I have a Gamecube hooked up via composite, and an XBox360 connected via component, and they both look great. The XBox games in HD (720p) look completely awesome. It's too bad I suck at video games. -- Growing old is mandatory. Growing wise is optional. |
