Default Problems with a digital Freeview recorder

I have recently installed an Argos Digihome recorder. Previously
using
just a Digi box the TV used to receive Freeview perfectly.

Now with the Digihome recorder it still receives Freeview perfectly
until you attempt to record something. It then has a stuttering
effect
on the recording and on the channel that you are trying to watch. I
have had it replaced and still same problem. The new box also seems
to
work perfectly at a different location.

This leads me to think there is a signal problem once you start to
use
2 tuners. Do I need to replace the aerial or would a signal amplifier
solve the problem? Or is there another solution?

In message . com,
The signal level into the tuners should not change unless there is a
design fault with the box.

True, but if you like the item otherwise, try a cheap one-in-one-out setback
amplifier.

Appears to me to be more of a problem with the box not being able to
do its job. Send it back and get one that works.

My son bought one and it works perfectly. I bought this one for the
mother inlaw. The first one I purchased gave the problem and so I took
it back and changed it. The second one exhibits the same problem. If I
take it to my sons house and swap my new one for his working unit then
my unit works perfectly in his house, therefore the box seems to be
OK.

As a Freeview receiver it works OK. Just can't record, which makes me
think the signal is not strong enough for 2 tuners. I am now going to
change it for a different make. Any recommendations?

A couple of months ago I asked the same question on this newsgroup, and
almost overwhelmingly I was pointed in the direction of the Humax PVR 9200,
I certainly haven't regretted it, in fact I would say despite the higher
cost than stuff like Wharfedale or Goodmans it rates as being one of the
best pieces of kit I've ever bought, and It also comes with a two year
warranty.

Is the hard drive causing the inteference on the box?
Do you have anything else in the same plug socket or extension lead?
Do you have a mobile or dect (digital cordless) phone nearby? These
can intefere!
Is it the recording off the hard drive that is stuttering? If it is it
sounds like the seek time on the drive is bad and the drive needs
replacing.
Or is it in a confined spaced i.e. in a tv cabinet and the hard drive
temp is causing the box to overheat?

Can you check the signal strengths any where in the box. My Thomson will let
you do this on the technical help page. If its marginal then improving your
signal quality may help. If your lead goes through a VCR try changing the
order...
