Is overrated, before I got my HD TV people were
saying you could see the pimple on someones face
five rows up in the stands during a baseball game,
lol yeah really, not unless there is a close up of the person.

Sure the picture is nice but this HD thing is a little exaggerated
if you ask me.

What does my e-mail address have to do with the topic?
I guess you guys think HD is the greatest thing ever, and are
offended by the topic. I own a samsung 46 LCD model lnt4661
and I say HD is overrated.

So then why do you set the res. so high on your computer monitor? You
could set it 640x480.:-) The quality of the HD picture also depends on
what camera was used to record it and the compression used to broadcast
it. If you have cable or sat, then it may be overly compressed degrading
the picture quality. BTW, I never heard the statement you quote. While you
can see a lot of detail on close ups, that's going a little too far.:-)

It's more exaggeration by coworkers who had HD, making those crazy claims.
I'm on charter cable, and pick up some over air stuff, To be honest I can't
see
any difference in the HD from cable as apposed to over the air.

Whether there is any difference between OTA and cable for the local
stations depends on the local cable system. Some cable systems are
bandwidth limited so they add more compression and rate shaping for the
local HD channels. OTOH, some local stations clobber their HD
sub-channel picture quality by putting out 2 or 3 SD sub-channels at the
same time.

Are you sure that you are looking at "true" HD programming? Most of
the stuff on the HD sub-channel is not HD, but is upconverted SD. In
general, if it is pillarboxed 4:3, it is upconverted SD. (There is an
exception to this which is older movies and TV shows shot on film which
have been re-telecined to HD but in the 4:3 original aspect ratio. An
example is the 1939 Wizard of Oz which has been shown in HD during the
holiday season the past several years).

Check out the prime time scripted programming or Leno & Letterman for
true HD. Or check the football games when they are true HD. Most prime
time reality and game shows are shot in SD because the whole reason for
them is that they are cheap to make and HD production costs more than SD.
