I saw an ad for CH4+1 on CH4 last night. It said CH4+1 would be on Freeview
channel 13 which currently broadcasts More4. Does this mean we're going to
lose More4 from Freeview?

Just checked the Radio Times and it looks like some of the Freeview channels
are moving about. More4 will be on Freeview channel 14 with E4 moving to
Freeview channel 29 - currently occupied by UKTV Food. ITV4 will be on
channel 28 - currently occupied by Discovery Real Time. Film4 will be on
Freeview channel 32 currently occupied by E4+1. E4+1 will move to Freeview
channel 30 currently occupied by ITV4. ITV2+1 will be on Freeview channel 31
which seems to be a new channel - ITV2+1 is currently on channel 815
according to my set top box.

I think your channels are all cocked up - the channel 815 is the giveaway -
boxes only allocate those channels if the proper ones are used. I think you
need to delete all your channels and re-scan your box - I expect it'll be
necessary to delete all the channels that are changing and re-scan at least.

This is what gets on peoples nerves with Freeview, every few months we
have to rescan, because something have changed, if it was for more
decent channels, it would not be as bad, but for another +1 channel, it
is a waste of time. Also what about older people who don't understand
the technology, how are they suppose to do it and how on earth do they
know anyway??

The system should have been like sky and sort itself out when things
change.

Freeview was a rush to get going and to be honest it shows.

Freeview was a rush to get going and to be honest it shows.

According to the Radio Times from 20 August the channel changes are as
follows:

Channel4+1: 13 (was More4)
More4: 14 (was E4)
E4: 29 (was Film4)
E4+1: 30 (no change)
Film4: 32 (was Film4+1)

I don't think a channel re-scan will be necessary on all boxen out
there, only those that store the channel idents permanently rather than
dynamically.

I'm actually a little disappointed here. If we have to have +1 channels
I'd rather have More+1 than E4+1. However, these +1 channels are only of
use if you need to timeshift stuff when recording, as I see it. I'd
rather see a new channel here, but that's obviously not going to happen.
Sigh.

The OP clearly needs to re-scan his boxen to get the channel layout correct.

A rescan is a pest from my POV as I live in an area where I can RX from two
different TXs. One in the lower frequency part of the band, the other in
the higher frequency part.

The LF versions are lower power and give less reliable reception. So to
rescan and get the versions I require takes some furtling about on my part.

For my Nokia 221T I have to run a rescan with the antenna lead removed
until it has passed the LF channels, then shove the lead in so it can find
the HF ones.

For the Panasonic recorder I may have to do an autoscan with no RF to blank
all the channels, then connect the RF and rescan the actual channels I
want, individually. However I've only owned this for a short time. Maybe it
will automate the process overnight... i.e. do it anyway even if I don't
want it to! ?

PITA.

So - as in the past - I'll only rescan if I find I need to. If the old
numbers still work, I'll use them as they are until that becomes a pest for
some reason.

Is there any technical reason for changes in the assigned station numbers
for stations that are continuing to be broadcast? I can see that 'new'
stations will require a number, and that when one dissapears its number
could become available. But is the shuffling for continuing stations
actually necessary? It would save bother if the broadcasters were told they
could not keep changing these.

I'm actually a little disappointed here. If we have to have +1 channels
I'd rather have More+1 than E4+1. However, these +1 channels are only of

I'd prefer all '+1' stations to be removed and the data used for other
purposes like better quality. However broadcasters are interested in what
they want, not what we'd prefer. :-)

Slainte,

Jim

It's a fanciful plural of box, in the sense of a computer, as in "Unix box".

Not really applicable to a "set top box", and certainly not as a singular.

Not again! Every time I have to go through this nonsense on one of my
boxes I have to re-enter all my programmed recordings. Somehow it seems
appropriate that one of them is called "The Enemies of Reason".

Rod.
