ONKYO has announced the launch of its 1st HD-DVD player, the DV-HD805. It is
one of the 1st HD DVD players to take advantage of high-bit-rate audio
streaming via HDMI version 1.3a.

Why would anybody buy a player that does not play both HD formats?
Seems silly to even make a player that only plays one format, or am I
missing something here?

OTOH, reasons to buy two formats:
1) honey, the BR player is in for service - just pick one of the
HD-DVD titles tonight!

Your point? Like I said if you don't care about the new CODECs or future
coming of Deep Color Gamut.
Many do and many want the 1 cable connectivity HDMI provides...
