Hello
I've just replaced my 20" tv with a 28" widescreen Philips 28pw6518. I've set it up in exactly the same way as my previous setup, that is, a scart cable comes from the freeview box into the first scart socket on the tv and another comes from the freeview box into the video recorder. The second tv scart socket is plugged into the dvd player. A video sender is plugged onto the end of the scart cable that leads into the video and this transmits a signal to a tv in another room. On my old tv this worked fine, watching terrestrial tv and turning on the FV box would change the tv channel to av1, turining off the FV and pressing play on the video would play the video thru av1. Turn on the dvd player and the tv changes to av2, no problem. The video sender let me watch either FV or video on the tv in the other room. Now with this new tv, turning on FV doesn't cause the tv to switch to AV1, nothing happens with the tv, if I switch it to AV1 on the tv remote that is fine but if I play the video I get no picture, with the FV box off all is blank. Interestingly when I press buttons on the FV remote the tv sensor light lights up. However, if I play a video the signal is transmitted fine to the tv in the other room. I can also watch FV and terrestrial on the other tv, I couldn't watch terrestrial on the remote tv before. This is mainly because when I press the tv/freeview select button on the FV remote, nothing happens on the Philips tv but it switches between terrestrial and FV on the remote tv, on the old set it would switch between TV and FV on the main tv. Any ideas anyone? |

....snip...
Is your SCART AV1 configured for RGB only perhaps and the Freeview box outputs that but the video doesn't (most videos don't)? it's possible that whatever signal the video produces gets to the sender anyway. Paul DS |

Paul DS Thank you, looking at the tv manual av1 is described as RGB whereas av2 is described as S Video in. So that might explain it. I would assume that the video would be okay with S Video in? I'll try it tonight. |

Any ideas anyone? Usually on Philips AV1 is CVBS & RGB in and AV2 is CVBS & S-Video in and CVBS out. You are short of an RGB input, but can probably loop through the freeview box, but you might do better with a switch. The video can do the sender function, so the sender is redundant. Check the cables you used before were put back the same way. The RGB ones need to be 21 way fully wired. |

My Philips has 3 scart, 2 of which are RGB but will quite happily switch between composite & RGB and tell me so on the screen. The 2nd SCART will also accept S-vid but only if I switch it to. That aside (to the OP), make sure you have the AV1/SCART1 or TV SCART from the video plugged into the AV2 or VIDEO SCART on the Freeview box. Only AV1 on the video will send the signal to the TV to tell it to switch. Doc |

The fact that the TV now doesn't switch to AV1 when the freeview is turned on may mean a partially wired or faulty cable between the two. Z |

Hello I've just replaced my 20" tv with a 28" widescreen Philips 28pw6518. snip description of problem As others have said, it could be that the new AV1 on the TV doesn't do composite, or it could be that you've inadvertantly switched round the SCART cables. I think the way things should be wired is as follows........ AV1 on the VCR to VCR on the Freeview TV on the Freeview to AV1 on the TV (If AV1 only supports RGB, then just use AV2 on the TV instead, and use AV1 on the TV for your DVD player). If it doesn't all just burst into life, here's a couple of things to try If the VCR has a modulator in it, you could tune it in on the TV as an analogue channel (asumes the TV does Analogue ) at least as a temporary measure. Once you've got the VCR playing on the TV someway (even if its only temporary) plug the freeview into it's AV1 input and check that you can record from the Freeview (you'll be ahead of most of the "Digital Population" in my experience!) In order to get the Video to output via it's modulator, you may need to connect it Via SCART so you can configure it! (ever heard of Catch 22? :=)) Oh, I suppose you could check this via your second TV I went through a similar excercise a couple of weeks ago with my Father in Law's set up. After much fiddling and tuning etc he is now able to watch videos without swapping SCARTs about AND record Freeview. Good luck, and come back and let us know how you get on. |

I am having trouble working it out from the above. Cheers |
