Any ideas why the difference between BBC stations and ITV stations? Do
they not work to same standards?
Philips Freeview, Panasonic crt TV and Emley Moor transmitter.

Do you want to try to re-phrase that to be either a question or statement
we might understand?

Everyone else does, would you like to post later on when everyone else has
explained it in very simple English for you?

Does the TV have a "smart" zoom facility. Some TVs adjust
the aspect ratio automatically to "fill" the screen.

Umm, dunno then.

If you'd said C5 was like the Beeb, but C4 was like ITV, then I had a
clutching at straws style theory.

I'm not sure where it might lead but:

a. are gaps present on text screens ("digital teletext")?
b. if so, are they the same - that is, ITV different from BBC?

Also, if you have the means to author and play a DVD, you might try the
files from http://www.orbitalzone.com/testcard.htm (although the little
I understand leaves me unsure they are as good as a "proper" set-up
DVD).

You have not set up your DTT tuner up for widescreen have you. Its set to
display a 4:3 picture (ITV) or a letterboxed 14:9 picture in a 4:3 rectangle
(BBC) stretched to 16:9 instead of an actual 16:9 picture. Go to your set up
menu on your tuner and set it to 16:9.

After all I've said and answers I've given to other helpers, your post is
not understood.

It is a w/s TV set.
Stations are coming via a Freeview Box, in order to get correct geometry of
pictures. Unless a w/s Tv has a digital box it will not display correctly.
The Freeview digital outputs mostly 16x9 pictures on the main stations, the
w/s TV being automatical regognising a 16x9 or a 4x3 transmission shows them
with correct geometry, this as worked for several years. But of late this
small band as been at the bottom of picture.

On text screens all are the same, with a small band just like the BBC
pictures.
I did note some pages had a broken white linebetween the bottom of picture
and top of this band.
