Default sky hd - low sound

Just got my HD installed and the sound is much lower than my old freesat
box. I have set the box volume to its highest but still I have had to
increase the sound on the TV by at least 8 points on the slider to get it
reasonable, and I don't even have my sound loud.

Is this a common problem with using HDMI?

As an aside, Sky misunderstood my order and assumed it was a replacement for
another box, so now I have no viewing card. Its going to take another 305
days to get a card so I can actually watch the channels. I can view BBC
preview though, I would imagine I would be able to view BBC HD when it
starts in the evening?

BBC HD Preview is on most of the day. Are you getting it yet?

Yeah I got the preview okay no problem, quite impressive. I was wondering
about whether I could actually watch the BBC programmes on that channel and
it appears that I can and that its free to air.

Unfortunately you have been left to go through the infuriating activation
process unless the engineer is going to return once the card has arrived.
Customer services won't register your card with a HD box if the HD box has
not identified itself to SKY. This is done using a menu option in the SKY HD
box. If often takes a number of try's and repeated phone calls before the
system recognises a box.

Only after a couple of failed attempts and a wait of 4 or 5 hours do they
seem willing then to ask for the serial numbers off the box and do the
set-up manually. That might have dumped the automatic system by now!

Could be possible the engineer has done this already.
He got on the phone to Sky and gave them the numbers of my other viewing
cards and then said all I need to do when I get the card is put the new card
in the sky+ box and take the sky+ card and put it into the HD box.

Just one other thing John, when I turn my TV on (sky box is already switched
on) I get a flicker, the screen goes snowy for a second and emits a sound
like an electric static, then I get a picture. Is that normal? It doesn't
seem healthy for the TV at all.

With my new Sky-HD STB form eBay the Sky CS person was quite happy to
talk me through checking that that the phone line was working and how
to do a Callback (which I knew anyway). It worked first time!
