Default Silly q about other manufacturers tivo's and dvd

I have a toshiba DMS with a built in dvd (RS- TX20 not sold anymore), and
can record stuff on the DMS and then save it to writeable dvd's (Save to DVD
shows below the save to VCR option, handy for premium channels/movies, and
the amazon unboxed stuff, must have burned a few hundred of em by now)...
Haven't seen any mention of saving to dvd on here, and other units I have
looked at, don't seem to show that in their specifications (only play
dvd's)...
I am looking for a second unit for my sister, (I burn DVD's for her to play
upstairs, on the DVD player and plasma TV) but was wondering if that is
something that is no longer available, is it available as an option, or am I
just missing something?

None of the TiVo/DVD combo units are still produced. There were six
DVD-RW units - Pioneer DVR-57H & DVR-810H, Toshiba RS-TX20 & RS-TX60,
and Humax DRT400 & DRT800. And there was one TiVo/DVD Player unit -
the Toshiba SD-H400. You can find these on the used and refurbished
market.

Do you happen to know if they still have the save to VCR option on the newer

Yes, that's still in there on all of the standalone units.

Thanks, glad to know it's just one of those features that worked so well,
they just stopped making it! Typical, if it it works, don't make it! Makes
me awful glad I already have the Toshiba TX20...
Do you happen to know if they still have the save to VCR option on the newer
units? I have an external dvd burner that accepts composite video (used for
security cameras), wonder if I could use that to burn dvd's from stuff on
the Tivo.... Seems I could maybe use that on a new one (looking for one that
does hidef too, since we have 3 hidef tv's, want to get hidef cable, and
would be nice to use a new tivo to record/transfer/burn that too - burning
only regular not hidef, that (hidef) would be for watching only)..
