Default Sky + Box with a Freesat Card

I have recently upgraded to HD and the Sky man left my old Sky + box behind.

When my son was at home I had a multiroom account and he had an ordinary Sky
box in his bedroom. When he moved out we cancelled the multiroom and his
card got downgraded to a "Freesat" card. If I connected the Sky + box in his
room would I be able to record, pause live TV etc on the free channels or
will this only work with a Sky + account?

Well they would leave the Sky+ box behind, it's your property from day
one, if they took it, it would be theft!

Rather than paying 10 pounds per month just for recording FTA/FTV channels it would make more sense
to pay 10 pounds per month for a Multiroom subscription so as to 'mirror' the subscription channels
on the main digibox.

What?
I have Sky because I'm sick to death of all the "reality" crap on the main
channels. Thank God for US TV imports, and now I have found Internet Radio I
can say the same for Radio. If you want to participate in the modern version
of the "Emperors New Clothes" than by all means continue to watch the
FTV/FTA channels. If I see another advert for a program about the Beckams I
shall burn my Licence!

Ever heard of choice? I look forward to true Video on Demand (not this
Anytime forced recording crap from SKY) when I can chose to watch what I
want when I want. But if you happy being forced fed with crap by the main
channels .....
