Default Used DVD wont play. Why?

It may be from another region.

I bought a used DVD of the movie "Sparticus" and for some reason it
wont play. I get a message that says "no disc' or the "player can't play
this disc". Other discs work fine in the same player. I got the same
results in another DVD player. What's the problem?
The disc and package look OK. No scratches and it looks like what you'd
buy in a video store; it doesn't look like a copy. Is there anything I
can do to make it play? Some adjustments maybe?
Thanks for any advice.

I think the player would throw up an wrong region error screen in that
event.

You would be surprised at how minor the dirt or damage could be,
especially in the inner lead in part of the disc, that would cause the
exact problem you are seeing.

I cleaned the disc really well and tried again. The player said "cant
use this disc" and the tray came back out. The disc says NTSC 1 on it. I
guess it's just a factory error. Oh well. Thanks anyway.

Where can I find info on how to set my players to play all types of
DVDs, if possible? One's a Samsung upconvert player (DVD-HD870). The
other's a Pioneer DVD recorder (DVR-225-S). Thanks.

Try he http://www.videohelp.com/dvdhacks . The Samsung has one hack
listed. Unfortunately it seems have mixed results. Seems to work for
some people. Not for others. There are no hacks listed for the
Pioneer.

It doesn't say Sony on it anywhere. Just Universal studios. I'll
exchange it, I hope. Thanks for the advice.
