Sky anyway.
If you go to a good, recommended, independent Sky dealer you will
almost certainly get a much better overall set-up as they will have a
reputation to keep up. Ask them if they do their own installations. If
they sell and install TVs as well, there is every chance that they
will have the skills get the best performance out of the system.


current Sky+ ASA offer is £50 + £30 install - which is dearer than direct
from Sky but they do the fitting rather than subbies and you can garantee
a new pace PVR3.

ASDA have an offer for £75. You buy a box with a card in it then phone them
up.

I forget what it stands for Authorised Sky something I think. Basically
independent satellite installers who are licensed to resell sky. You pay
them and they sort it with sky. Not to be confused with the cowboys in
supermarket foyers and shopping malls - they just sign you up with a sky
install and pocket a commission.

ASA is Authorised Sky Agent.

Some ASA's, usually independent shops can handle all of the sign-up
forms, ordering viewing card etc and still arrange for Sky's
"installers" to do the job and others handle the whole thing,
including doing their own installations.
It is those that you should look for, if you want the best job done as
they are usually experienced aerial and TV installers.
Most of the call centre staff at Sky seem not to even know or admit
that independent ASA's exist !

Have been watching this thread as I am thinking of swapping from
virgin to Sky.
This is the first mention of a specific box, is there different sky +
boxes and if so which is the best?

Pace, Thompson and Amstrad all make sky+ boxes. Amstrad supply the most and
pace the least. General consensus is that on average Amstrad are the least
reliable - but some of those stats are down to them having the highest
install base (and some to ******* Sugar using cheap components).

Generally if you buy direct from sky you take your chances with what is on
the van.
