I have a Panasonic TU-CT41 settop digital converter box. It's always
been a bit hit and miss - every so often it seems to get into some weird state and none of the control buttons seem to function. Usually it sorts itself out after a while. But tonight it came on with a menu headed Auto-Setup, and no apparent means of clearing it. According to the manual (p5) I should select 'Continue to Owner ID' and press the OK key to exit, but this did nothing. It just seems to be stuck there. In desparation I tried power off/on from the mains - it spent a couple of minutes searching for channels then back to Auto-Setup. The batteries in the remote control are presumably ok, as the up/down keys work fine Any ideas how I can break out of this loop? Peter |

It shouldn't be knackered - I have two TU-CT20s still going strong ....did
you download the last software update a few weeks ago in May? http://www.dtg.org.uk/retailer/download_schedule.pl Should be on software v0.46 which was the last update from v0.38 |

By the way - if you do decide you need a new box then this is the one to
get - direct from TVonics or from Dixons/Currys http://www.tvonics.com/smdr200.html |

How long did you leave the power disconnected? I'd leave it disconnected
for at least 10 minutes then try again. Paul DS |

Thanks everyone.
Mark - Your suggestion did the trick. I could have sworn I'd tried this sequence yesterday before posting, but maybe not .... So I didn't need to try the long power off. As for the software update, I don't know! Some annoying messages kept appearing on the screen a couple of months ago, but whenever I tried to follow the instructions, everything froze. So I'll struggle on for a while. When I do renew the box, I'll be a lot more clued up as to what questions to ask (and unlikely to buy a Panasonic!). Peter |
