Installed a Samsung LNT 3732H LCD HDTV in the bedroom a week ago. Everything
working great until yesterday. Turned on the TV and had sound but no video - not even the TV menus would display. This was using the HDMI input from a Dish 622 receiver. Tried the composite input from a VCR and same thing - audio but no video. This had me freaked and thinking the TV had failed after only a week. Later I decided to try the DVD player I have connected to component input. It was okay and a check of Dish and VCR showed they were now working too. Here's the difference which I suspect might have caused the problem. The first time I turned on the TV before bringing the Dish receiver out of standby, so other than the Dish screen saver there was no video signal. The second time I turned on the Dish receiver and the DVD player before turning on the TV. Anyone know if there's some protective circuit that keeps the Samsung LCD's from displaying video, including menus, if there is no signal at the time the TV is powered up? I know the TV will not allow you to access an input if nothing is connected to it. Since yesterday I've powered up the TV only after turning on the Dish receiver several times and had no further problem. Certainly hope I don't have a problem with the TV because there is no service center near me. |

I've also had hdtv channels go out for days at a time. Seems that we are in a learning curve and the broadcasters are having problems too. |

HDMI is High Definition Multimedia Interface, this system must "shake hands"
to start. Remember, this is similar in many ways to a computer connecting to a router. Always have the source connected and powered up BEFORE powering up your display. (Never connect anything to your display while is it powered on.) Also be aware of the real possibility of "burn in." This CAN and DOES happen to LCD displays. I've seen it when grey bars were used in the 4:3 format. Enjoy you new display! "BillJ" wrote in message ... Installed a Samsung LNT 3732H LCD HDTV in the bedroom a week ago. I've been careful to start source before powering up TV since this happened and
have had no further problem. But it wasn't only the HDMI input that wouldn't work that day. The A/V composite input didn't work either - audio but no video. Still suspect it could be something unique to Samsung to prevent activating the display when there is no signal, but I haven't been able to confirm that. Just keeping my fingers crossed that it doesn't happen again. Otherwise I love this TV. In article , Rob says... HDMI is High Definition Multimedia Interface, this system must "shake hands" to start. I have a Samsung 60" set and this happens to me but I always thought it was
the cable box not detecting the TV being powered on and it quits putting out the signal and just records without output. I can cycle through the options of inputs until I get back to HDTV/STB and then it works fine. Rich "BillJ" wrote in message ...
