Default New DVD Recorder wanted

I am ready for a good quality DVD player/recorder with VCR and a Hard Drive.
Help in selection appreciated.
Money not as important as other items, quality, etc

Jack,

I have looked at every new model introduced this year and I haven't seen
a DVD recorder with a VCR AND a hard drive. If anyone has please post a
link.

The only two recorders with a hard drive currently available in the United
States are units by Philips and Polaroid. Both are listed on the Walmart
website.

Philips DVDR3575H/37
Polaroid DRA-01601A

The comments on AVS Forum favor the Philips unit. Both units lack the
ability to pull in a schedule, the ATSC tuner sucks, and they don't have a
VCR either. Why anybody would want an integrated VCR these days is beyond
reason. Just use your existing VCR to copy over the occasional tape via
video inputs.

Pioneer does list a DVR-640H-S on their website. But because it doesn't
have an ATSC, you'll have a hard time finding it in a store.

Agreed! I was shocked to see the latest Pio with NTSC. (what were they
thinking?) There is also a Toshiba out there ( and a handful more), and one
( I forget) that DOES have the VCR combo requested by the OP. Needless to
say they are ALL SD. Sony had an HD out there, but you were married either
to OTA or cable.

Stay away form Philips like the plague. Crap quality and user
interface. Plus it always insists on switching to DVD when a disc is in
slot.

Guess I'll have to give up and ask about which unit without a VCR?

Google the Pioneer DVR-640H-S and look for a CNET review link. Once there
poke around for a "people also asked about..." type link and you will see
some other DVRs. Toshiba, etc. As I recall, there was one with a VCR as
well. Alas, they seem to have only NTSC tuners. (a real drag for recording
OTA programs)
