Given what it needs to do I would guess a 'digital' tuner has an analogue front end which feeds into a digital procesing section. So in the case of my units there is one turner with dual capability. |

Think through the practical implications, this labeling is not as simple as it first appears. My analogue tv is marked SECAM/PAL/NTSC 90v to 250v 50/60 Hz 'World Ready', will never leave the living room, guess these features cost little. |

"Dave Plowman (News)" wrote in message ... But is there any evidence of any of these petitions ever being acted on? Yes, the one to prevent using cycle paths being mandatory, even if they were inpractically placed was succesful. As this one could be because it has no party political attitudes attached to it. In fact it does not need legislation to happen as ministers have the power to make these sort of requirements mandatory without going to parliament. |

Of course. 10p a word, or a cup of tea and a bun. Or 45ft by 12ft of hard standing and provision of the usual utilities. And a real ale pub with 6/10ths of a mile. I only need 45ft when I bring my dad in his ghastly caravan. Otherwise it's 25ft. Bill |

This morning, dealing with The Customer From Hell, I was asked to tune the new Lowe set into the 20 CCTV channels (I kid you not -- this bloke's a total nutter). Just for a moment as I eyed this Lowe monster I heard your words -- "some have only digital tuners". It was with great relief that I discovered the options DVDT, DVBC, and terr analogue in the main menu. Bill |

They must cost something, but probably less than the extra hassle of manufacturing, distributing and stocking a range of different receivers for different customers' requirements. They'd have to employ sales staff that understood the technology and could explain it to customers, and they'd have to pay them enough not to have to depend on the commission from selling pointless after-sales insurance schemes, and that would cost far too much. |

So if you want to show support for this, please go to this e-petition to the Prime Minister: http://petitions.pm.gov.uk/analogue-warn/ We the undersigned petition the Prime Minister to Attach warning labels to analogue-only (non-digital) TVs and video recorders. Analogue TV broadcasts will cease over the next few years, so that all analogue-only TVs and video recorders will require external digital "set-top-boxes". Many people, especially the elderly, find set-top-boxes difficult to use, and the complexity of video recording from a set-top-box will often defeat the technically competent too. Analogue-only equipment is still widely available and is commonly bought by people without knowledge of these problems. Warning labels on such units stating "WARNING: ANALOGUE TUNER ONLY" would alert people to the problem and discourage their sale. This would save vulnerable people from losing money, protect the environment by reducing the vast amount of equipment that will be dumped, and reduce the resources required to aid the conversion to digital reception. Maybe also do one about the lack of height in widescreen televisions? "This televisionis sh*t." -- Dave Farrance |
