Noted today Morrisons have a pile of LG 42" Plasma HD ready TV sets. £675

Now of course Morrisons have no idea how to sell this type of product and
they have them all in sealed boxes in a pile in middle of store.
Tesco/Asda etc. know that you unpack one and switch it on for a demo.

Think model is LG42PC1

Not sure if price is resonable but would expect Morrisons might not know how
to bargain price this type of product.

Price isn't that good:

I think there's some thinking behind their method ;-)

I don't think Morrisons have aerial installations, unlike larger Tesco and
Sainsburys who generally have distribution systems, and in the case of Tesco
with in-house channels.

Shouldn't stop Morrisons demonstrating it from DVD though.

Good, accurate advice, professional installation and aftercare /
faultfinding of course from the supermarkets, and a full range of
accessories at sensible prices with advice as to what is
suitable.......or is it then a case of trying to find smoeone who does
offer all this from the remaining few who are left once the
supermarkets have succesfully put most out of business?
Or am I being synical?

"By the way, Sir, you will need these cables, this multiway scart
adaptor box, and this wall bracket at 4 times the price you could have
got them for from a TV dealer and they may be suitable but the details
on the box might tell you!" "And dont forget the insurance." "You
didn't want it delivered, did you?"
It shouldn't matter too much that it gets carried lying flat in the
back of the car"
"If you cant make it work, just call the premium rate help-line, they
should help"
"Would you like help to pack it in the bag with the frozen chips and
peas or are you ok?"

Sorry about all this. I suppose I shouldn't complain because I make a
good living from installing equipment that has come from supermarkets
but almost every time I can show how it would have cost less overall
to buy the complete package from a specialist and almost never have I
seen a system working anywhere near its potential when it has been
self-installed.

I bought my lounge TV from a proper TV shop, because it was large and heavy
they would not do a sale with me taking it away. They insisted on
delivering and installing, and I had to pay what I thought a large fee.
When it came they placed the unopened boxes on my floor and asked me to sign
delivery note, I of course refused. After a 'phone call back to base they
unpacked stand and Tv plugged aerial in and mains, the TV self installed and
they left.

I recently agreed to set up a friends new Digital LCD TV and PVR.

His wife and daughter had gone to Argos and bought them without seeing
them running.

I turned it on, and the first thing I noticed was that people looked
like plastic dolls, so I did my usual routine, brightness, colour,
contrast all down to zero, then bring them up to a good black and white
picture, then the colour to my definition of " real ".

It now looked very good, and I was quite impressed.

However, my friend said " that looks awful now, all washed out ".

I realised this was because the set was only about 8-10' away, I was on
the settee, and he was in an armchair 3' to my right.

I suggested he move it to the far end of the room, where his old set
was.

He didn't get all the muxes, no radio at all, and I suggested he move
his aerial from loft to roof.

Then I set up the PVR, which seemed OK, except it was analogue.

Looked again today it does have a 'D' at the end of the label on the box.
But nothing in printed to say digital on tne box.
Nothing on Morrisons label either.
The other day there was a warning about not putting it in your shopping
trolley, but that not there today.

You obviously never see the millions of self installed equipment where
the customer is satisfied. Not everyone needs the services of the
rip-off specialist shop.

As a 'professional retailer' which TV, Freeview STB/PVR, aerial, and
connecting cable would you recommend? Would it be the product where you
had too much stock or the product where you made your greatest profit
margin?
