Default Impressions: Terk HDTVa Indoor Antenna

I just bought one of these to replace an aging Recoton
amplified antenna. And, yes I know there is no such
thing as an HDTV antenna.

I decided to try it because it was on sale for $40 at a local
TV retailer, because it's amplified an because it's design is
similar to that of the favorably reviewed Philips Indoor "HDTV"
Antenna (PHDTV1).

Verdict? So far I'm impressed. I've had the antenna for
several days. Average signal strength was slightly increased
and tuning stability were improved. There is much less futzing
with the antenna with channel changes. The Recoton was highly
suseptible to azimuth and location. This is much less the case
with the Terk. I'm surrounded by leafy trees but the Terk
is much less affected by blustery winds than the Recoton.

I highly recommend www.hdtvprimer.com for all sorts of info about
HDTV. Unfortunately, they rate the terk as "Severe hype. The
equipment works, but Terk marketing prevents intelligent decision-
making.". For an indoor antenna, I recommend the AntennasDirect DB2.
It's about $60 (delivered). For those with a budget, a RadioShack
double bow is about $20 and slightly better than a Terk.

Wow. I didn't base my decision on Terk marketing. I based it
on the local retailers 7 day return policy which gave me
time
for an evaluation.

Also when does the plural pronoun THEY apply to one forum
author's opinion?

Hell, I can throw up a 152 anecdotal opinions which don't
even include my
initial impression review.

Can summarize your first hand experience to back this up?
I had a RadioShack double bow tie. It's lack of
amplification
limited my number of DTV channels.

If it's working OK for you, you don't need any opinions from folks
here. Enjoy it.

So you live just south of the Canton Street bridge in the median of
route 24 ? Or is Google Earth mistaken again?

Negative longitudes are west of the prime
meridian.

Considering that when I enter my address in Google it puts
me to the West of 24, yes Google is mistaken again. I used
the USGS Tiger Server browser. ;-)

meridian.

Specifying a negative longitude is not common practice.

Longitude degrees are specified as E or W.
Latitude degrees are identified as N or S.
