I get dish satellite and am pleased with the digital feed....much better
than what I was getting with cable. If I get an HDTV LCD I know I'd have to buy the HDTV lineup at extra cost. Won't do that. But will I get HDTV feed with the local channels and the programs that are HD like some on National Geographic? And will the digital picture be better on the HD LCD tv? TIA for any information. |

But will I get HDTV feed with the local channels and the programs that are HD like some on National Geographic? And will the digital picture be better on the HD LCD tv? TIA for any information. A couple of months ago I was in a similar situation. I already have Dish Network and was thinking of getting their HD lineup. However, when I bought my LCD I discovered that many over the air HD channels are already broadcasting in my area (L.A.). Because of the abundance of Hi-Def channels in my area, I have since decided not to upgrade the Dish Network to HD, and pay the extra money. Also, any local Hi-Def channels that you can receive will produce a better picture than any non-HI-Def digital channel on Dish Network. Keep in mind that with local over-the-air Hi-Def channels, you either receive a great picture, or no picture at all. There are some digital channels that I don't receive, for example channel 2 (CBS) and channel 28 (PBS), I guess because the signal is not strong enough, though I still receive their non-Hi-Def channels. Most of my local HD channels are broadcast in 1080i, though a couple broadcast at only 720P. My understanding is that currently the only source for 1080P is either Blu-Ray DVD or HD DVD, and that the Hi-Def channels on Dish Network or Direct TV are only 1080i. I'm certainly no expert, but if I am wrong, I am certain that someone will point that out to us. One final note, depending upon which TV you wind up purchasing, some non Hi-Def channels might have a worse picture on your new TV than they did on your old one. Good luck, and happy viewing. The free OTA ATSC picture will be better than anythiing you can buy from cable or dish. Oh, that's assuming you have an antenna. It looks good and I have no complaints except for severe weather, but I think OTA at 1080i is probably the best you are going to get. I don't think anyone is broadcasting 1080p yet while both cable and satellite are nlikely running more compression. |
