Do Any Flat Panel HDTV's Do Standard Definition Well?
I have only seen one flat panel that did sdev acceptably for me and that
is my friends Hitachi 50" plasma with the source being DirectTV HD-DVR. I have TW Cable and am wondering if the the sdev picture quality is do to the DirecTV source because all TW flat panel sdev I have seen (maybe all LCD's) look very bad... Dan

I haven't much to compare with but I am very satisfied with my LG 42 inch (1080P) LCD. Using it OTA, when receiving SD transmissions the picture is 'softer' but no jaggies, jiggles, crawling etc. Michael wrote in message ... Dan I'm now a TW customer, having been an Adelphia customer prior to the bankruptcy buyout. I do not have STBs, instead I have HDVRs. About a year ago, most SD programming was unwatchable on a 42" 1080p monitor. Today, the SD (both digital and analog) picture is considerably better - yet quite varied from channel to channel and show to show. I can only attribute this marked improvement to updating the software in the Motorola HDVRs - improved upconverting algorithms, or perhaps AN upconverting algorithm? Non-HDTV is now actually quite watchable on a monitor that has no upconverting of its own built in. Prior to these automatic upgrades in the HDVR software, a better SD picture was displayed by capturing via S-Video from an HDVR with a Hauppauge or OnAir device (meaning DtoA and AtoD conversion) and playing back from a PC. Most TV material I enjoy is still on SD channels, so this improvement is much appreciated - and a considerable labor saver.
