Another newbie here. Going to replace my failing 20" CRT with a 32"
LCD, mostly broadcast, existing DVD, and I guess I'll upgrade that to
HD disks soon enough.

Shopping at the big stores, I seem to always be impressed by the Sony
images. Trying to comparison shop the Sony site and run their
comparison widget, ... their matrix doesn't seem entirely well
populated.

KDL-32S2010
KDL-32S3000
KDL-32XBR4
KDL-V32XBR2

Any comments on the various 32" models, or Sony in general? It does
seem about the priciest label. BB has the xbr2 for $1249, the new
xbr4 will generate frames at 120fps, is that a big deal? I'm not even
certain I understand what that feature is all about, I thought the
signal was the signal.

And of course, are the BestBuy and CircuitCity house brands, at half
the price, even worth considering?

Thanks.

J.

oh great that PDF feature doesn't work.

ps - What about mounting, I live in Los Angeles, earthquake territory,
are these things at all stable on the little stands they come with?

Samsung make all the LCD panels for Sony.
I can recommend choosing from the Panasonic, Sharp, Sony or Samsung
LCD products at the 32" size.
All have great performance and reliability.
120Hz is good for a more accurate picture, less motion blurring, but
equally important are contrast ratio and response time.

I bought a KDL-V32XBR2 from CC a few weeks ago. The set had severe
problems with gray "clouds" (uneven backlighting) that made darker
scenes unwatchable in my opinion. I returned the set.

I then got a Sharp LC-C3242U from Costco. At half the price, the
picture quality is not as good but the backlighting is even and the set
is more watchable.

I'm waiting to see whether the 32XBR4 fixes the cloud issue. I haven't
seen any reports on that yet.

buy a *current* Vizio 32" LCD (with dual
TV tuners: ATSC and NTSC)

i got mine from a local Costco at $599

the price of these flat panel TVs is in
free fall, since the volume continues to grow

if you spend $1000+ for a Sony, you are going
to feel like an idiot one year from now

if you only spend $600, it'll make it a lot
easier to upgrade in the not too distant future

i run 4 inputs into my Vizio. i use the Vizio remote
to switch the video, and my A/V receiver (mid level
Denon) to switch the digital audio (and also
analog 5.1 SACD)

bill

Thanks.

I bought an olevia 427V a few months ago for $399. I'm very satisfied
with it. There 32in model 532H uses the same ATI video controller and can
be had for under $600 at many places. I wouldn't hesitate to buy it.

I also live in the L.A. area, and I was also concerned about the "little
stands" holding my 46" LCD during an earthquake. I bought a "Z-line Design"
stand at Circuit City. It is a little pricey, in fact it costs more than
every other stand I have seen, but I have no doubt it will hold the TV, and
keep it from tipping over during a quake. They look great, and the
materials and tempered glass are first rate; it is built like a tank. The
only place I saw it was at Circuit City, but you can view their website at
http://www.z-linedesigns.com/ Click on Product. I'd be interested in your
comments about this product, if you choose, or not choose to buy it.
Thanks.

I will second that on the 32" Vizio ! !
Costco has it for $599 and so does Sears- $599

On fathers day weekend Sears had it on sale for $569
I could not resist. Got it.
I hooked it up to my Sat DishNetwork and for kicks I put my old roof
ant on the coax hookup.
I did an auto scan and I was amazed that it picked up EVERY local
digital broadcast.
My local (Tucson, AZ) NBC had the golf touny on and the HD was breath
taking. You could count the blades of grass and the grains of sand.

The network HD prorgams are GREAT! looking- eye candy. Jay Leno- The
Tonight Show is very colorful and clear.
My local News casts are AWSOME in 1080i

I have been watching my local stations over the antennae more than my
dishnetwork for now. The cost of HiDef programming through the Cable
company or Dish services is high. All my locals are in digital over
the air for FREE.

I did a side by side compare at Costco and Sears- The Vizio looks just
as good as Sony or any other set for that matter at half the price.
