Apologies if you see this twice - I recently posted this but it hasn't
come up on my server/newsreader

And again if it's just come up - I think Xnews might object to the all
upper-case subject line; there's only one way to find out!
I've seen some answers on Google groups, so thanks for those responses!

I live in an area where all forms of reception are a bit iffy.

(Charles; Bill) -Billericay, the wrong side of the hill from CP

(Dave Plowman) The OP would best make sure he can get a refund if the
portable
radio doesn't work well - or borrow one to try first.

Unfortunately they seem to be excluded from refunds, and I don't know
anyone with one. Come to that, I just don't know anyone (Sigh)

I wonder if I could get more stations with a DAB set to get more radio
programmes - I don't want to switch on the telly to get Radio 5! And
bfore

I would like something that works a bit better than my Radio/CD player,
as unfortunately I have to have overnight/weekend hospital treatments,
and I fancy an MP3/radio player to keep out the chaos of an open ward;
(HTF does anyone ever get better?)

I know it won't be particularly good quality; neither are my presnt
portables, just ok reception will do me.

I don't want an installation!! just a mains/portable sort of thing, that
will travel a bit if required.

I didn't mean to start a war!! This just seemed to be the best group to
try, and usuallu doesn't mind going a bit OTAnd if you're seeing t

Apologies if you'rer all seeing this on the group for the 3rd time; I'm
hoping to see it for the first!

There are many sites that tell you what you might get based on post codes.
There is a difference between a radio not working and trying to use one
where there is no coverage.
No coverage doesn't mean faulty, it means the user is thick!

Unfortunately they seem to be excluded from refunds, and I don't know

Why would you get a refund for a working product? We don't all want to buy
repackaged goods from Argos sold as new after a "try before you buy"
parasite.

Try the various DAB sites.

Try the mant DAB groups, people do mind going OT.

Do you use Bluebell Hill (over the water in Kent) for TV ?

That provides BBC DAB programmes, so combined with CP, your signal
might be acceptable. Try Invicta Radio on 103.1 FM, reception of that
will give some indication of likely results for DAB from Bluebell
Hill.

e.g. Because it does not do what you were led to expect it would when you
purchased it.

So far as I know, no-one here is forcing you to buy from Argos. :-)

My experience of Argos is that they offer a 'no quibble' return refund
policy as this means they don't have to worry about having salepersons
describe it accurately in the shop, and establish it is what suits your
requirement. Your choice if you want to make use of that approach or not.

Slainte,

Jim

Haha!, yep you've stepped into a war zone alright;!..

Anyway choice is yours.. DAB if it works in your area which I seem to
remember you do have a TX there will be fine for mains powered
"portable" use, their a bit heavy on batteries DAB portables;!.

Or there are better things on the go, but more fixed, choice what there
is of it is yours;!...

I was amused to see a wind-up DAB radio that worked for a whole 10 minutes
on each full wind.

Thanks, Tony et al.

As for my posting problem - that'll teach me to accept a whole bunch of
rules, kindly offered by an expert to filter nuisance posts, without
checking what they actually _do_ !

What a plonker

Check out a Degen De1121; good accurate reception on all bands and
built-in MP3 recorder so you can load up your podcasts before you go
or even set it to automatically record your favourites while you're at
work. Almost pocket-sized too and about £50 including postage. And the
MP3 detaches if you don't need the radio.

I'm very happy with mine!

Did the instructions reveal that a "full wind" was twenty minutes of
winding?

I didn't buy it surprisingly, but it does remind me of that old cartoon of a
hand petrol pump and a big Bentley with the pump attendent asking the driver
"Can your turn 'er off please as she's gaining on me?".
