Default OT - DAB

I live in an area where all forms of reception are a bit iffy.

I wonder if I could improve things with a DAB set to get more radio
programmes - I don't want to switch on the telly to get Radio 5! And bfore
you ask, it would be Freesat, not DTT sourced - DTT is also iffy.

I know it won't be particularly good quality; what digital stuff is now the
bosses have a big "make it worse" knob, but my listening is pretty casual.

I don't want an installation!! just a mains/portable sort of thing, that
will travel a bit if required.

Any input, please

mike

Where? There isn't one 'cure-all' solution

If your serious about quality then chuck the idea of DAB as far as you
can throw it and then five feet more!. UK DAB is ****e squared..

Get a satellite system as even the BBC, not now noted as the best
broadcaster on tech quality, transmits there on higher rates, apart from
Radio 3.

Or aim your dish over to ASTRA 19.2 or Hotbird and see what the rest of
Europe has to offer Stations like Bayern 4 Klassik at 320K MP2 wipe
the floor with DAB and theres quite a few other European broadcasters
who still have engineers where it matters:-))

Enjoy

My dear Tony, the OP did mention that he doesn't wish to listen to the
wireless through his sat set up and he is only a casual listener. But
if all other terrestrial broadcast systems are iffy in his area, than
DAB may be too.

I'd say it most unlikely that DAB reception will be good on a portable
radio if FM is always poor.

Well connect it up to a ipod sender with a couple of stacks of Alan Dick
mixed panels then, usable anywhere round the gaff....

That depends on where the fm and dabble tx'es are located, they aren't
always at the same sites...

Of course. But FM is a mature network and DAB not. So I stand by my
statement. The OP would best make sure he can get a refund if the portable
radio doesn't work well - or borrow one to try first.
