Gotta Sharp LC32GD7E with HDMI socket. Tried to connect a SONY
AR31S Notebook with
HDMI output but it does not work (No Signal). Tried the notebook on
a JVC LCD HDMI no problem
so is there anything "known" about Sharp Aquos LCDs and HDMI ?

I'm using a 52" Sharp LC52XD1E here...

Coming out my Dell Optiplex 745 (ATI-X1300 DVI o/p at 1920 x 1080 60Hz)
via DVI-HDMI cable into Sharp HDMI (i/p5) and it works fine...

Also works 1360 x 768 via the VGA HD15 input.

What resolution does your laptop run at? Can the Sharp (1366 x 768)
cope with this?

Sony AR31S: Native WUXGA 1900 x 1200.
Output adustable to 1366 x 768. As for the Sharp coping; it says
on the tin "HDMI" and I have failed to find a caveat anywhere in their
literature.

Welcome to reality, where facts are facts, though not necessarily the same
facts! I'm not aware that HDMI specifies anything about the resolution any
more than "VGA" does. Buy an older VGA monitor, connect to a newer
hi-refresh rate PC and watch it either go black or scream in pain :-).

on my slightly older sharp with dvi, even though the screen is 1366x768, the
tv tells my pc that it can only do 1024x768 over dvi.
i needed powerstrip in order to force the card to feed tv what i knew it
could cope with - and it finally did.

Your lucky, at least it carried a on a conversation. Mine, on the
other hand, is
totaly dumb. Not a flicker. Sent it to Sharpserve and after 2 weeks
they returned
it with a service sheet written in code. Never mind I'll either
crack it or crap it.

Ring them up and tell them either to send you some sensible instructions,
come and make it work, or it's going back. "Fit for purpose" for a TV must
surely mean that Mr. Average has a reasonable chance of getting a picture
from it!

BTW, if you want to "upload the code" (write up what you're trying to do and
what Sharpserve said), someone here will probably be able to help you out.
What model of PC are you connecting it to and what operating system and
connections (HDMI, DVI, VGA etc).
