I'm looking at DVR's for use with a DISH 6000 receiver, which is an
older HD unit. I also have the DISH module which permits me to receive local stations (standard and HD) from a conventional outside TV antenna. The DISH ViP622 unit sounds good, but my understanding is that if I bought (or leased) one, I wouldn't be able to continue the particular set of programs I have had for several years, and that the total DISH monthly fee would increase fairly substantially. Also, I'm not interested in paying the initial and monthly costs of a TIVO. - Does anyone have suggestions or recommendations for a DVR that would be compatible with the DISH 6000 receiver and that would record all the stations I am presently receiving (satellite stv, satellite HD, local stv, and local HD)? I'm mainly interested in having the ability to time-shift and to skip commercials, and I don't think I need HD recording capability if it costs substantially more. (This might suggest that I'm posting to the wrong group (HDTV), but I would want the ability to record HD programs even if the recording itself wasn't in HD, so I think the note may still qualify.) Thanks for any suggestions. Jim |

It's a very good DVR, not quite as good as an Tivo but still surprisingly good. |

It's a very good DVR, not quite as good as an Tivo but still surprisingly good. Thanks. The Vip622 seems to get very good reviews. - However, if I converted to the Vip622, which would involve installation of the new single dish antenna, I understand that I would not be able to continue my present subscription package (150 channels, 16 HD channels, Sirius audio, free local HD/STV stations, for around $69 per month), and I would end up paying for the 622 and also paying additional fees for the programming, which all adds up. So, I'm not sure it's worth it. Although the 622 is a very good unit, I would prefer to get a "not so good" DVR or DVD recorder that wouldn't require me to change my DISH program package. Jim |
