I've got into the habit of switching off all my electrical items
(excluding the fridge) at the mains every night before I go to bed.
Problem is, yesteday I set the DVDR to record something, then switched
the bugger off at the mains and went to bed!

Marky P.

That will teach you to take any notice of stupid government ******s.

That's incredibly presumptious of you, Mike, and possibly unfair by
assuming
that the government were ******s, there. How do you know it wasn't advice
given out by stupid BBC Breakfast ******s?

Sounds to me that you work for the government.
The NuLabour scum that form the government are a load of ******s.
Regards Mike.

You must've missed the smiley, Mike, since I was referring to the fact that
BBC Breakfast are as much stupid ******s as the government when it comes to
the topic in question.

Both of them want to create a climate, if you'll pardon the pun, of fear.

Electric buses and cars are the answer, but they seem no nearer to
becoming
popular than they did 10 years ago!

The councils who allow the running of diesel pumping buses should hang
their
heads in shame.

I don't know where you live, but I haven't seen a diesel bus pumping out
smoke for ages in London, Birmingham, Southampton or many other cities. With
particulate traps, low sulphur diesel and even bio-diesel they are cleaner
than ever.

Electric vehicles are not 'green' - the pollution is just generated
elsewhere.

If it radiates, at 10MHz, sufficient power to light a 60W bulb with
40% efficiency, doesn't that make it a 150W shortwave transmittier?
Would it even be legal for somebody who had passed the RSGB exam to
switch it on?

I like the quote "There is nothing in this that would have prevented
them inventing this 10 or even 20 years ago," commented Professor Sir
John Pendry of Imperial College London who has seen the experiments. It
was done more like thirty or forty years ago. Still, perhaps they have a
way of powering my 3kW heater without frying the cat when she walks
through the power-beam; hyper-space or sub-ether perhaps. Oh I see; it's
a transformer with a large gap between the primary and secondary and no
core. They were making transformers over a century ago! Where is the
innovation?

"The bulb was even made to glow when obstructions such as wood, metal
and electronic devices were placed between the two coils", just like a
transformer.

"In the experiment both coils were made to resonate at 10Mhz, allowing
them to couple and for "tails" of energy to flow between them", just
like RF/IF transformers in radio receivers.

I know normal air cored transformers have a small gap, but they are also
it lot more than 40% efficient. Besides, my neighbour can not plug in to
MY sockets, unlike this re-hash of a non-starter.

I have an ideal for making moving things around easier, but I don't know
what colour it should be.

Good, it's not just me then ?

This rubbish was the 3rd or 4th story on Friday night's main BBC 1 10pm News.

Of all the worthy and tangible science or engineering related topics they
could cover, they chose this !
