Don't know about anyone else, but this is the first time I've seen the
Freeview Playback logo used for real.

That's not for real, that's just a picture. And the logo isn't even on the
appliance.

Well its got everything apart from an HDMI socket and a USB socket for
transferring the recorded files, and unlike the Topfiled and Humax you can
start watching a programme from the start while its still recording without
it stopping half way through or having to press rewind, and its also got
series link. No mention of SPDIF or Dolby 5.1 though.

"High quality RGB SCART output from the DVR-250(FP1) delivers digital TV
as it is meant to be" - analogue, apparently!

and a USB socket for
transferring the recorded files

Does anything have this? I'm still using my PC and freeview card, the
absence of such a feature being one of the main reasons.

I don't know about the Topfield but you can watch a programme from the
start while its still recording without it stopping half way through or
having to press rewind.

Yes, if you do indeed swap to the channel and use rewind to go to the
beginning of the recording it will pop out once the programme finishes
recording, but if you select it from the recordings list (1.06 and onwards)
then it will go all the way to the end.

The Dreambox DM 7025 and DM 600, for example, have 10/100 Mbit Ethernet
connectors so you can plug them straight into your home network.
Transfer rates from the DM 7025 are about 7...9 MB/s and it can also
record directly to network shares. (Internal HDD is optional.)

You can get the DM 7025 with DVB-T, DVB-C, and DVB-S tuners. All
combinations are possible (T+T, C+C, S+S, S+T, S+C, C+T). The tuner
cards and the HDD are user-replaceable, and behind the GUI surface, the
set-top box runs Linux - you can even log into it over the network and
add your own components via Python scripting. (There's also a web
interface for setting up timed recordings, etc. remotely.)
