p.s. Has anybody mounted a subwoofer under the floor of their viewing area?
I have a dry and accessible crawlspace area, and wondered about attaching a
subwoofer under the floor for both concealment and effect....

Try 'The Cult of the Infinitely Baffled', at

https://home.comcast.net/~infinitelybaffled/

Lots of info on how it can be done (plus photos of some rather
outrageous subs in the gallery).

Have been looking at a wireless surround sound system to replace my 12 year
old receiver with three sets of speakers hooked to it (via a load protected
speaker swtich). I have been using the extra speaker sets as 'pseudo'
surround sound for years, and running all my TV audio out to this system.

I'd be keen to get recommendations on what receivers/CD/DVD players folks
feel are decent in the wireless marketplace, as well as what speakers are
compatible (if they differ from the makers of the other components).

One final question - I have a set of wired speakers on my deck that are also
controlled by the same speaker swtich mentioned. I wonder if there is a
wireless reciever/unit that also has a standard set of jacks for a wired set
of speakers? (Or some other device to be able to re-use these speakers?).
They are decent quality and outdoor rated, so I'm loathe to get ride of
them.

Appreciate any feedback

You must begin to remove all wireless components from your home.
They are not good for your health or your pocketbook.

Just tighten up your tinfoil hat, you'll be perfectly safe.

Well, even with my tinfoil hat's wings extended fully, I am still
picking up my cordless phone on channel 1 of my wireless tv audio
headset.

Got to tuck those wings in then! Or get a phone that operates on a different
band, unfortuately there's overlap with a lot of devices. 2.4 GHz phones can
often mess up wireless networking gear, some of the Apple stuff seems
particularly sensitive to phones and microwave ovens.

Of course, it's usually much more interesting if you're picking up someone
else's phone on your wireless headsets. ;-)
