There have been some strong opinions posted on the site about the
BBC's proposals for HDTV. Might I suggest that it might be worth
telling the BBC exactly what you think about the proposals? It does
take a few minutes but if we don't tell them then we can't complain
afterwards. Here is the link:http://www.bbc.co.uk/bbctrust/consul...ions/hdtv.html

I think the impact on SD DTT services (removing BBC Four/301/302/
Parliament for four hours in the early morning) is so small as to be
irrelevant. The audience for these channels at this time is virtually
nil (or exactly nil when they're off air!), and significant events on
301, 302 or Parliament will take precedence over the HD broadcasts.
The BBC Four broadcasts at this time, if any, are repeats. Insomniacs
can use a PVR/VCR!

As for whether it's worth putting this limited HD service on Freeview
- probably not, but it can't really hurt. Unless it limits what is
eventually made available elsewhere (to avoid a ridiculous
discrepancy)...

I think the 9 hour HD channel on DSat and cable, while a good and
ambitious target, could be rather limiting at times. How many
simultaneous HD feeds will be available from Wimbledon next year? I'm
guessing more than one! How many will be available during the
Olympics? I'm guessing more than one!

Yet in this request, the BBC have not anticipated that there will be
times when more than one simultaneous HD channel could be highly
desirable. Maybe they'll keep us wanting and wishing for more until
they get enough spectrum to provide two HD channels on DTT after DSO.

Or until there's a final "get stuffed" to the BBC's request for more
spectrum, meaning HD will have to take a back seat on DTT, and the
service can expand on DSat and cable as and when there's content to
fill it.

Cheers,
David.

The important question,

will Series 4 of Dr Who now be shot in HD?

What's sad is they've said "no SD upconverts (unless they're archive
inserts into HD programmes)".

Shame. SD Dr Who, upconverted to HD from the digital master and
transmitted at 15-20Mbps MPEG-4 has got to look better than the same
content at 4.5Mbps MPEG-2 on BBC One or goodness knows what on BBC
Three.

Cheers,
David.

And what about Turnham Green?

(Actually it isn't all that funny, but it might be if you were
sufficiently drunk).

On the road from Cropton north there is a place called Knob End.

Bill

There's a Bell End near me!

Is that the one in Rowley Regis?
It's right next to Mincing Lane if I remember rightly

I'll never forget the moment in the Wife Swap episode with the Bardsleys
effing and jeffing when the husband was filmed walking past a street named
"Uncouth Road".

If you know the place well (as I do), the most amusing aspect is that
the name is alleged to be a corruption of "God's Plot".

Well, let's face it, S****horpe wouldn't be S****horpe without the ****
(it would end up simply being Shorpe).
