Default Quick newbie question on antenna setup

Hi,

Bought a new house that was already set up and running with Direct
TV. We're not continuing the service. The dish is still outside and
presumably wired to all the coaxial jacks in the house.

2 questions:

1) I don't suppose the Direct TV dish itself can act in any way as an
OTA HDTV antenna. Could it?

2) Would replacing the dish with an outdoor antenna allow me to use
the wiring setup already in place, allowing me to simply plug and play
into the existing jacks inside the house? would the cables and
connections all be interchangeable?

any help or experience appreciated.

Pete

No.

Yes, you should be able to use the cables. I'm assuming they use RG6 or
similar cable with F type connectors.

If I read this right, there are some free satellite channels...
