Default Freeview Help

Hi All,

Bought a freeview box for my bedroom.
Installed ariel in loft and pointed in general direction of all other
arials around me.

The only channels I can get are BBC 1,2,3,4.

Tried adjusting the arial but to no avail.

Where are all the other channels ??????

TIA

S.

....snip...

....or maybe it's the wrong type of aerial (i.e. wrong group). Where are you
in the country? The group can give you a better idea of your chances if
they know that.

Well I'm a believer in outside aerials.
Have you looked at the instalation menu for a signal strength indecator?
All my Freeview boxes have one, use that to get maximun signal/quaulity on
the channel you are getting then re-scan.

(Raising or lowering aerial as well as roting might help.)

How do you know which way all the other aerials around you are pointing -
presumably because they're out in the fresh air and not in people's lofts?

Maybe that had ought to provide a clue!

Just about every house near me has a roof aerial, as indeed do we, but I
opted for a second aerial in the loft for our bedroom TV and it perfoms
flawlessly.

No, a rooftop installation will always be better than a loft aerial, but
the majority of people are not keen on clambering up roofs, in which
case a loft aerial may offer a cheap alternative to getting professional
rigger.

I think the bit in the OP's message which is crucial here is "pointed in
general direction". Some trial and error might get an acceptable signal.

With analogue, you usually have to adjust it by the picture quality - you
can't do this with digital as it's either there or not. Perhaps the OP could
try adjusting it for the best analogue signal on channels 1 - 4: and if the
signal is rather spotty he will probably need an outdoor aerial for digital,
*and* he should check Wolfbane:

Are you sure you have the right type of aerial?
It needs to in the correct 'band' or a wideband one
if the channels are not grouped into one band.

Stick your postcode in he-

http://www.wolfbane.com/cgi-bin/tvd.exe?

and also her for comparion.

http://www.wolfbane.com/cgi-bin/tva.exe?

Will probably be quicker if you post your postcode
(the first group of digits will surfice, you don't have to
give your precise location away!). Then it will be easy to
spot any obvious problems such as signal strength.

With that info it should be possible to diagnose the problem.
