When I change between BBC1 to BBC News24 the amount included in the picture
from BBC1 includes a wider shot (horizontally) and slightly less vertically.
What causes this please? (Admitted this is an analogue signal not digital
but I presume that shouldn't make a difference).

Thanks.

Old Tv size is ratio 4x3, new widescreen TVs 16x9
Widescreen by BBC1 on anologue is 14x9
(Digital w/s is 16x9)

If you have or get a w/s TV best to use a digital box.

But re reading your post, if you get News 24 you will have digital so can't
understand you watching anologue BBC1. Would suggest you use the digital
BBC1.

Why are you watching BBC1 analogue?

BBC1 digital and BBC News 24 are both 16:9 and should therefore both appear
with the same aspect ratio.

analogue bbc1 will often be in 14:9 - guess you're watching it in 16:9
mode - try setting your tv to 14:9 zoom - or watch digital BBC1 which is
16:9 usually.

If you are subscribed to one of the Virgin digital packages I would have
thought that BBC1 would be digital 16:9!

If you are using the old Virgin (ntl) analogue system then that is the cause
of your problem.

My UKTV History picture has a 1 inch black bar top and bottom. What are
they using?

they always broadcast as 14:9 within a 4:3 frame - much to people's
annoyance.
