I love my DirecTV, but I love my TiVo more. I will jump to Comcast if this comes about. You're welcome to get the TiVo3 and use it with Comcast. A bit pricey though in my opinion, but a good solution if you do want to go HD and Comcast and keep TiVo. -- This is my .sig |

I found an old article about this (http://www.pvrblog.com/pvr/2005/03/c..._and_tiv.html), but I'm not able to find any updated information. Does anyone know the status of this deal? Some news. Seems the push to Tivo on Comast may take some more time. http://seattlepi.nwsource.com/busine...comcast15.html -- thepixelfreak |

The only part of the article that mentions Tivo at all reads: "Separately, Comcast and digital-video recording pioneer TiVo Inc. are expected to offer TiVo functionality to Comcast customers, but Kipp said it was too early to give any details about the timing or nature of those plans in Washington." That certainly doesn't indicate it taking 'more time' but it doesn't say 'now' either. It remains a mystery why Comcast is passing up the golden opportunity to steal DirecTV customers. |

What is TiVo "service" when using satellite or cable? The whole guide is provided by the carrier.
On my DirecTV TiVo, I receive no TiVo "service", except for maybe software updates. All of my TiVo's functionality is local, in my unit. -- -- Steven http://www.glimasoutheast.org "Charlie Hoffpauir" wrote in message ... I'm thinking Tivo "software" as anything that can be done with a "version upgrade" like I used to get with my DirecTivos, vs trying to write a new operating system that could be installed on someone other manufacturers hardware, ie a Comcast DVR. Surely there are some things inherent in the Tivos and DirecTivos hardware or firmware that is specifically "Tivo". My understanding of the Comcast/Tivo deal was that Tivo would write the software for the Comcast DVRs... the "existing" DVRs, not just new ones yet to be built. Every single thing your TiVo does is considered TiVo "service". The pausing of live TV. The buffering of live TV. The season passes. The wishlists. The online programming. The online movie downloading. The MRV. The HMO. etc. -- This is my .sig |
