Hi group,
I heard a couple years back now about TiVo and Comcast inking a deal that would have TiVo doing the software for Comcast's DVR's. I found an old article about this (http://www.pvrblog.com/pvr/2005/03/c..._and_tiv.html), but I'm not able to find any updated information. Does anyone know the status of this deal? Thanks, Ray at work |

Yes, they've demo'd the software a few times, including at CES 2007. Comcast has test deployments in the field today, and they say they'll be doing their first public deployment 'this spring', but not which area will be the first to get it. -MZ -- URL:mailto:megazoneatmegazone.org Gweep, Discordian, Author, Engineer, me. Any idea where their test deployments are located? I don't recall, but AFAIK they're closed tests right now. The first deployments open to the public are supposed to be this spring. -MZ -- URL:mailto:megazoneatmegazone.org Gweep, Discordian, Author, Engineer, me. This is taking waaaaaay too long for some reason. They first Press released this Comcast thing 2 years ago, but for some reason don't want to actually roll it out. I get no information from TiVo, Comcast, DDB, TC, or anywhere else. If this was important to either of them, and I'm assuming it's important to at least one of them , why the vaporware? Is this the Netflix deal all over again? |

Both TiVo and Comcast have talked about the software regularly on their financial calls and in their SEC filings, etc. -MZ -- URL:mailto:megazoneatmegazone.org Gweep, Discordian, Author, Engineer, me. Certainly encouraging, but why is Comcast delaying the rollout? LOTS of testing. Large MSOs, like Comcast, are a hodge-podge of different back-end systems purchased over years, or decades, and lots of smaller operators they've bought out over the years. It is a very, very heterogeneous environment. So they have to test lots of combinations of STB and back end servers, and make sure all the new back end code that supports the TiVo platform works with the different back end systems. Apparently, testing took longer than planned. The TiVo rollout isn't the only thing they're doing, so schedules need to be set as resources are available too, I'm sure that's a factor. And large companies have their own pace. -MZ -- URL:mailto:megazoneatmegazone.org Gweep, Discordian, Author, Engineer, me. I love my DirecTV, but I love my TiVo more.
I will jump to Comcast if this comes about. -- -- Steven http://www.glimasoutheast.org "Ray Costanzo" my first name at lane 34 dot commercial wrote in message ...
