I've just contacted Sky regarding reducing my monthly expenditure by
switching off my multi-room subscription (saving £10/month). I was steered towards purchasing a £20 viewing card. However, in between the service being discontinued on the second receiver and the receipt on the freesat card I appear to be receiving all of the freesat channels (Sky 3, etc.). The relevant website Q&A (http://www.freesatfromsky.com) says that if I already have digital satellite equipment "...All you need to get access to the free channels available on the digital satellite platform is a freesat viewing card which costs just £20..." but does this assume no current working viewing card? Should I badger for my £20 back? Thanks, Greg |

Should I badger for my £20 back? yes and no...because your old card will work (as you can see), but in theory its sky's property, so legally you have no leg to stand on..you have however been ripped off for £20, all you needed to do was cancel the multiroom. Worth a phone call to try and get it back? I suppose if you kick up a fuss and just say if they wont pay it back you want to cancel any premium channels on your man sub as they have ripped you off, they might concede? -- Tumbleweed email replies not necessary but to contact use; tumbleweednews at hotmail dot com |

Do I have a "distance selling" angle. Is it worth just telling them I don't want it? I know it's "only" £20 but I'm kicking myself. I've also read elsewhere here that they may send out new cards from time-to-time - am I cutting myself off from these if I'm not on the Freesat customer list? Greg |

Greg There has only been one change of viewing cards since the launch on 1 Oct 1998, having a Freesat card only guarantees they will swap the card for a few years, you might as well continue with the cancelled viewing card and then if they do change the cards buy one. You could activate the Freesat viewing card and then sell it to someone outside the UK. -- 60 day free DVD rental: www.southeastbirmingham.co.uk/dvd Mobile Offers: www.southeastbirmingham.co.uk/mob Win Amazon Vouchers: http://www.wabbadabba.com/join.aspx?friend=4I9Q6C6X3477 |

You should certainly be able to return it within 7 days of delivery for a full refund under the Distance Selling Regulations. The means of ordering is irrelevant whether by phone, Internet or mail order. http://www.oft.gov.uk/advice_and_res...g-regulations/ -- Cheers Nigel Barker Live from the sunny Cote d'Azur |
