There you have it. Last night's slight bias towards women is balanced
by a bias towards men tonight. It all evens out in the long run. (But
there's still nothing aimed specifically at androgynes! It's not fair!
My licence fee money is as good as anyone else's...)

That hammers home my point even further. I`ll almost certainly catch the
news at some point but other than that there`s nothing on either day I`m
bothered about watching. The only two programmes I`d be remotely interested
in are One Foot in the Grave and Match of the Day. The first is a repeat of
an admittedly funny programme but I`m not concerened about seeing it again
and the second I`d normally watch but the sight of Man United celebrating
turns me off.

Eastenders? Demolition? Castaway? Holby Blue? A couple of second rate
movies? An arts documentary? The Apprentice? Car Wars?

No thanks!

Thanks for this cogent response. Its too easy to get taken in by the
spin, and miss the man's sense of humor. That said its one of those
correlation most people are prone to make. An increase in women bosses,
the rise of reality tv, there must be a connection - right?

The classic one being that during the 150s there was almost straight line
correlation between the rise in ownership of 'fridges and the rise in the
crime rate. It follows that 'fridge ownership was responsible for the
crime rate.

Idiot. It means that thieves wanted to steal fridges, like in the 80's
they wanted to steal video recorders and in the 90's/00's flat screen TVs.

Ha ha ha .... what about stealing money to buy fridges

Actually you'd do better to look at other correlations to crime.
or even the periodic increases in crime, but that's another story.

Well I`m a bloke and quite frankly there`s no programme on earth that
bores me quite as silly as Top Gear does. I agree that there`s little
on the telly that interests me but this isn`t a recent thing. The
vast bulk of broadcast TV has always been crap.

Good point.

Let's do a test. Last night's TV, from 6pm to midnight.

BBC1

6.00 News

Directed at men, women, and everyone else.

We've already heard from Sir Patrick that it's being presented by bimbos who
can't speak proper English. So its for women at the exclusion of men.

6.30 Regional News

Directed at men, women, and everyone else.

Has always been directed at women and is unwatchable since unless its news
about my town its totally irrelevant.

7.00 Castaway

Possibly directed at women, but AIUI it's a bit of a flop and not
pleasing anyone male, female, or other, so it doesn't really matter who
it's aimed at.

Women's programme.

7.30 EastEnders

Women's programme.

Yes. Finally something that is mainly targeted at women.

8.00 Holby Blue

Cop show. Directed at men, women, and everyone else.

Never heard of it. Anther casualty spin off I presume, so soap.

Women's programme.

9.00 CCTV You Are Being Watched

Topical documentary. For men, women, and everyone else.

Programme for idiots.

Women's programme again.

10.00 News

Aimed at men, women, and everyone else.

We've already heard from Sir Patrick that it's being presented by bimbos who
can't speak proper English. So its for women at the exclusion of men.

10.35 Imagine...

Arts documentary. For men, women, and everyone else.

Another boring idiotic documentary on John Lennon.

Women's programme.

11.35 Film: Unfaithful

Thriller. Not familiar with it, but it stars Richard Gere so it might
be aimed at women.

Unwatchable.

Women's programme.

That's lots of news, plus Holby Blue and two documentaries that are
definitely not aimed at just women. So, a very slight tendency towards
programmes aimed at women last night. But now look at tonight...

Every single programme was a women's programme. There was nothing in the
schedules whatsoever for men of for a family audience. It was all
unwatchable garbage for the unintelligent.

BBC1

6.00 News

Directed at men, women, and everyone else.

We've already heard from Sir Patrick that it's being presented by bimbos who

6.30 Regional News

Directed at men, women, and everyone else.

Has always been directed at women and is unwatchable since unless its news

7.00 Demolition!

Documentary. Not seen it, but it sounds like it's directed at men

Nope. Its another idiots DIY programme for women.

Women's programme.

7.30 The Green Green Grass.

Sitcom. Directed at men, women, and everyone else.

Repeat directed at women.

Women's programme.

8.00 Watchdog

Directed at men, women, and everyone else.

Always been a women's programme.

8.30 Car Wars

Documentary. Not seen it, but it sounds like it's targeted at men.

Nope. The programme that is on is Traffic Cops.

Its a boring irrelevant unfunny women's programme.

9.00 The Apprentice

Directed at men, women, and everyone else.

Nope.

Its a lifestyle/reality programme therefore directed at women.

Women's programme.

10.00 News

Directed at men, women, and everyone else.

We've already heard from Sir Patrick that it's being presented by bimbos who
can't speak proper English. So its for women at the exclusion of men.

10.35 Lottery Draws

Directed at men, women, and everyone else.

Totally unwatchable and insulting to ones intelligence.

Women's programme yet again.

10.40 One Foot in the Grave

Repeat. Directed at men, women, and everyone else.

Women's programme dealing with women's issues.

11.10 Match of the Day

Still directed mostly at men.

Only nominally.

11.55 Film: Disturbing Behavior

I assumed last night's thriller was aimed at women, so to play fair I'll
give this one the benefit of the doubt and assume it's amied at men.

Nope. All thrillers are directed primarily at women.

No action therefore its a women's programme once again.

There you have it. Last night's slight bias towards women is balanced

RUBBISH. Almost every single programme apart from MotD was directed
primarily at women and because of that I doubt any men will want to sit
through it all in order to watch MotD.

Patrick Moore is right. Television has gone totally down the toilet ever
singe women were put in charge of it. When men were in charge there were
balanced schedules. Today its all for women and it all stated with Thatcher.

And I'm a woman and I enjoy Top Gear. Then again, I don't watch
soaps, so I suppose by Aggie's logic that must make me a lesbian.

I agree that there`s little

Yeah, there are only about 2 programmes I actually bother turning
the TV on for at the moment and one of them's DW.

I think Sir Patrick is having a laugh, not unusual in someone with
the
keen
sense of humour he frequently displays. The Sky At Night was
produced by
women for many years, at least one of whom is said[*] to be held
in high
esteem by him.

It's not women producers that Sir Patrick is complaining about.
Doctor Who
was originally produced by a woman as well. It's women executives who
are
running the BBC who only think about making programmes for women.
Where has
the balance gone? Almost everything on the BBC apart from Top Gear is
directed at women. There is hardly anything for men on TV anymore.
Half the
countries population and the BBC licence fee payers are being
alienated or
excluded from TV.

You're right. All that ****ing endless football and snooker. The women
just can't get enough.

All I have to say is Gabby Logan and Hazel Irvine. Even the football
and snooker have been dumbed down in order to appeal primarily to
women.

Sports fans are not exclusively male. Soap fans are not exclusively
female.

I don't know much about Gabby Logan and Hazel Irvine. But I can
guarantee that Beckham could teach them a thing or 2 if they really want
to learn about how to dumb down a sports commentary...

Since you don't know who Gabby Logan and Hazel Irvine are I must assume
that you are completely gay and don't watch any sport on the BBC or ITV
along with every other man who does not know who these woman are.

I knew the people who keep on defending RTD's gay agenda were gay
themselves and this proves it.

Stephen has professed to be "gay" before on this newsgroup. It's no
biggie.

Ah, well that explains why I sensed his behaviour was unnatural then. It was
begining to bug me. My Gaydar seems to be callibrated correctly. I no longer
need to out him.

So he's gay. So what? Being gay is no longer a crime. I still don't agree
with RTD's gay agenda and think it's damaging Doctor Who but i don't agree
that all homosexual's should be to blame for this.

Gayvies should keep his views on sex to himself and keep them out of Doctor
Who. By using a show watched by children to promote a gay agenda he is
giving ordinary gays who I have no problem with a bad name.

Exactly!! You pinpointed the problem.

Even if we agree with Patrick Moore's criticisms of the presenters, why
would a woman want to watch a bimbo who can't speak English any more
than a man would?

6.30 Regional News

Directed at men, women, and everyone else.

Has always been directed at women and is unwatchable since unless its news
about my town its totally irrelevant.

The regional news is more likely to have an article about your town than
the national or international news, so by that argument it's *more*
relevant.

And even if we agree with your claim that it's totally irrelevant, how
does that mean that it's always been directed at women?

9.00 CCTV You Are Being Watched

Topical documentary. For men, women, and everyone else.

Programme for idiots.

Women's programme again.

Even if we agree with your diagnosis that it's "a programme for idiots",
how does that make it a "women's programme"?

10.40 One Foot in the Grave

Repeat. Directed at men, women, and everyone else.

Women's programme dealing with women's issues.

Either you're even more out of touch with popular culture than I am, or
you're trying not to be taken seriously here.

[and several more programmes, dismissed either with arguments presented
above, or with...]
Women's programme.

Well if you're not going to bother putting forward a half-arsed
argument, then neither am I.

The question is whether or not it's directed at women, not whether or
not it's directed at people who live in your town.

8.00 Holby Blue

Cop show. Directed at men, women, and everyone else.

Never heard of it. Anther casualty spin off I presume, so soap.

Women's programme.

Only nominally a Casualty spin-off. It was created by Tony Jordan who
gave us Hustle, Life on Mars, etc. Not especially targetted at women.
Try watching it and see for yourself.

9.00 CCTV You Are Being Watched

Topical documentary. For men, women, and everyone else.

Nope. Its another idiots DIY programme for women.

Women's programme.

From the description, it's footage of buildings being knocked down. (A
pub in Nottingham and a hotell in Torquay.) It's dumbed-down TV, but is
it really a women's programme?

7.30 The Green Green Grass.

Sitcom. Directed at men, women, and everyone else.

Repeat directed at women.

Explain.

8.30 Car Wars

Documentary. Not seen it, but it sounds like it's targeted at men.

Nope. The programme that is on is Traffic Cops.

According to the Radio Times, it's 'Car Wars'.
